Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Lewis.
Hi Brandon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started with an interest in being a better music creator. Singing came much later as I was encouraged by my church family and the local community to let my voice be heard. Understanding music has always come naturally to me, but I never imagined I’d be a signed artist with the interest of major labels. At some point, my love and passion for music began to take over. I accepted my fate and leaned into my gift!
At 18 I began researching the local Memphis music business scene and I found The Consortium MMT where I would go on to learn how to become a better singer, songwriter, and record producer through the Soulright Music Mentoring Program. I studied my craft at the time under the mentorship of the Hall of Fame Songwriter and Producer, David Porter, learning the formula for longevity in songwriting and music production.
During this time, I built many valuable relationships and stayed dedicated to becoming the singer-songwriter, community leader, and entrepreneur I am today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It takes countless hours of rehearsal, preparation, writing, brainstorming, and collaborating. For every mistake I made along the way, there was a lesson learned. It’s challenging being an artist when we don’t make much profit from our music in the beginning.
I’ve allowed my passion for music to serve as a strong foundation to overcome the harsh realities of the world. The constant evolution of my creativity is something I continue to look forward to!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am primarily a singer-songwriter and composer of commercial music for the marketplace of today. I am known for my music, my style, and my community engagement. I am most proud of my latest work as a mentor, songwriter, and also audio engineer. Recently, I had the chance to work with the legendary Tito Jackson, of The Jackson 5, on his last album featuring Stevie Wonder as a tracking engineer.
My sound and my intentional appearance set me apart from other artists & writers. Also, my sound is significant for the times, but it’s tailored to my individuality. Majority of the time I create with the intent of being as emotionally connecting as I can to my audience of listeners. I believe this is the key to longevity as a music creator!
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was highly self-motivated. I never needed to be encouraged to do something, I just wanted to know-how. I was very driven and passionate about anything I put my mind to. I was also very loving to those around me as well as observant.
