Daily Inspiration: Meet Cynthia Hawkins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cynthia Hawkins.

Hi Cynthia, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I graduated from the University of Memphis in 2012 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Professional Studies, concentrating in Health Service Administration. I always knew I wanted to help my community and I thought I could do this in a hospital environment.

Boy was I wrong, I was way too sensitive. All I wanted to do was feel purpose in my everyday work. So six months after undergrad, I headed back to school. This time I wanted to focus on a profession that every company and employee needed, Human Resource Management.

I attended Strayer University’s Master’s program where I focused on my love for the community in a different way. Through teaching the fundamentals of job searching and interview skills, I was able to help over 100 people obtain employment in the community. Working for big companies like FedEx, Westin, and Kroger I thought I made it.

However, I still wasn’t where I needed to be and I felt it every day. In 2017, I gave birth to my son and that’s how things changed for me. After maternity leave, I went back to the biggest job of my career with Kroger Corporate. This is where my faith was tested. My thoughts begin to change and my desire to live in different circumstances heightened.

I listened to some of my favorites every day; Bob Proctor, Lisa Nichols, Lez Brown, and many more teachers in the art of the mind. One day it clicked for me. My purpose would come in the form of things I loved naturally and authentically. I always loved beauty, makeup, and skincare.

One day at the office, I was searching for help to get my body back in shape after pregnancy. I came across what was then a very new form of technology that assisted in eliminating fat cells and tightening the skin. As I did more research, I was very intrigued. The only problem was it wasn’t offered in Memphis.

The nearest location was Atlanta. Once I found a service provider, I noticed she trained and certified Licensed estheticians to utilize the same technologies. I knew this would change my life forever but I had some tough decisions to make.

Going to Esthetic’s school would mean quitting my full-time job and committing to a plan with no guarantee of success. But I was more determined than ever and the challenge seemed scary yet so attractive, I quickly made the decision to walk away from corporate America.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The road has not been smooth and sometimes it’s still hard. The biggest challenge is keeping a clear mind and creative ideas following.

The world’s technological achievement adds pressure to stay up to date, keep a competitive edge and perform not only in your business but online. I started Urban Body Studio in 2018, social media was growing rapidly and becoming the largest marketing platform. I had to hit the ground running.

Within the day-to-day struggles, converting from a corporate setting to an entrepreneurial culture was challenging. The obstacle was combining both worlds without eliminating the effective elements of one.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
