Today we’d like to introduce you to Dolla Bill Dodson. Them and their team share their story with us below:
“DOLLA BILL” DODSON a.k.a. “The Platinum Teddybear” was born Aug. 20, 1972, in Memphis, TN. He is a Southern Soul Blues Singer. His roots are based in blues, R&B, and soul music.
As a toddler, he would perform for his family, namely his Great Grandfather Otha Joshua.
Otha, who was a piano player and singer as well would often pay Dolla Bill a quarter to perform for him, in a lot of ways Dolla Bill was getting paid to do his thing at a young age.
Dolla Bill is most notably known as the lead singer for The Fade Band. After a long stint with the band, he left music for a brief moment but would occasionally perform for different bands and blues artists in the Memphis area.
When he had come to the end of his hiatus, Dolla Bill stilled longed for the chance to have his own musical projects “Ain’t No Fun (When The Rabbit Got The Gun)”, Want Ads, Sundress Season and One Good Reason are his latest projects.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It had its ebbs and flows or the good and bad, the good being mostly because when you have a home base such as CC’S Blues Club and Memphis Sounds.
I had gotten spoiled because I didn’t have to deal with the stress of having to market myself or continuously re-invent myself, the struggle being the hard work you put in, on having to put a band together from scratch, booking shows, negotiating with promoters or even getting promoters and club owners to see you.
The struggle though has made me a better musician as well as a better businessman, it’s definitely one for a t-shirt “Appreciate The Bumps In The Road So You Can Enjoy The Ride”.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a Southern Soul Blues Singer and recording artist which is a new genre of The Blues. My roots are based in
blues, R&B, and soul music.
I’m most notably known as the lead singer for The Fade Band and recognized for my High Energy, Entertaining Show, for example how I’m able to start singing one song and vocally blend another song with it, I also have the innate ability to involve the audience into the show.
I’m most proud of the fact that I built up enough courage to strike out on my own when most entertainers say if I had what you had with The Fade Band I would stay with the Band. Humility, I believe sets me apart, I’m always aware of the fact that at this point where I’m at, it can easily be gone, trust me I have confidence in my entertaining abilities.
I often say that I might not have the prettiest voice or I might not fit the mold of a sexy RnB artist but I won’t be out entertained. I know that all the things that I get compliments for its all possible because of My Creator and I’m Very Grateful and Thankful.
What do you think about happiness?
Family, I draw all of my energy from family.
They keep me grounded and being around them continuously reminds me that life is bigger than how many shows you’ve done or how many people you’ve performed for or what producers you will work with next, it lets me know what’s real, they know the real you.
