Daily Inspiration: Meet Elizabeth Reid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Reid.

Hi Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I was the typical awkward little sister that always got in the way. As punishment, I would sit with my mom as everyone got dressed.

Somehow my form of discipline became a pastime. I loved to watch my mother put on her makeup. She would always use her lipstick as blush and eyeliner to help create the perfect red lip.

After my father’s death, my family didn’t go out as often. The moments I loved to hate eventually stopped altogether. My mother lost her battle with heart disease. Watching my mom fight for her life while raising eight children with a smile made me resilient. She was living proof that black girl magic was real. And I was determined to make my mother proud.

In 2010, I graduated from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, and was commissioned as a U.S. Army Reserves Medical Service Corp Officer. While working on my Master’s in Mental Health Counseling, I became pregnant with my son and a vision that changed the trajectory of my life forever. I decided to turn my passion for beauty and enriching the lives of others into a business.

I am now the owner of Simply Liz Love and the founder of Tiny Human Skincare. I am on a mission to ignite the allure of others one experience at a time. As a licensed esthetician and serial entrepreneur, I am humbled by the opportunities to share her truths through writing, community service, and public speaking.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In 2012, I officially began conducting business. I had no idea that bootstrapping with only $500 to start would take four years to see a real profit. As much as I would have loved to take out a loan, it went against everything I believed in.

I signed up for every class known to man. I learned about the various forms of companies, incorporations, trademarks, copyrights, and taxes. Although I had a master’s in mental health counseling and was commissioned as an Army officer, I still went back to school to become a licensed aesthetician.

I fell intimately in love with the process of nurturing my goals. I had no idea that the process of learning my business inside and out, would create other lanes of revenue. I get to do what I love in the world of beauty and people are willing to pay me for my opinion, expertise, experiences, and advice.

In 2019, I went from waiting for an opportunity to thrive to have a waiting list of people that I cannot wait to serve.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Tiny Human Skincare is coming soon!

As a licensed aesthetician, I realized that skincare is a lifestyle that isn’t taught until puberty begins. Tiny Human Skincare is a movement focused on proper skincare from birth. We aim to be the first skincare company to teach skincare as an essential part of life in children.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I had an unorthodox perspective that made me different.

Moving from Milwaukee, WI, to Memphis, TN, was a culture shock. It made me a loner. I did sports and ROTC in high school for fun and spent most of my spare time reading, writing, or creating.
