Daily Inspiration: Meet Farzaneh Sotoodehnia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farzaneh Sotoodehnia.

Hi Farzaneh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
There is no starting point. Creating and building have always been an interest of mine since I was a child. I have had a set of influences throughout my life that has shaped this moment in my life. During the first year of school, I made a painting that seemed strange to my teacher. She asked me to do it again.

In my final year of school, I won third place in a design competition. At the beginning of high school, I competed again and was ranked second. As a result of my principal’s encouragement and support, I enrolled in the art school and started my new career path.

In 2007, I worked in the first and biggest advertising company in Iran where I created storyboards, montages, and visual effects. At that point, I realized my ability in painting was far beyond my peers, and for a moment, it occurred to me that I enjoy painting, so I continued it instinctively.

As time went on, I became interested in the field of Cinema and continued to focus on Scene and Custom Design.
After years of experience in various domains, such as Creative Design, Writing, and Advertising, my first short film was released in 2018.

I have a background in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Scene, and Custom Design, as well as a master’s degree from the Polytechnic University of Milan, the sixth-ranking art university globally. I believe that art does not end with a specific element, it is like a spring that is always boiling.

Although I had to use the industrial sector of art to earn money, I always nurtured my creativity and painting abilities with it. The Coronavirus pandemic gave me an opportunity to focus on my inner source, painting.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was challenging since art in traditional communities faces greater challenges than art in modern nations, and working in the field of art in Islamic countries has its own set of concerns and conditions for women.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am working as a creative director and Scene and Costume Designer in advertising.

As someone who is concerned about the environment and aesthetics, I believe I am capable of creating recycled art, which I have done several times and I am always pleased with this element of myself.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I was 5 years old when my little sister was born; my grandmother took me to the stationery store to entertain me and bought me a pack of six colored pencils that measured 10 centimeters long, so I thought that the pencils were the same height as me.
