Daily Inspiration: Meet Hadrat Faatimah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hadrat Faatimah.

Hi Hadrat, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out designing and styling as a young girl watching my grandmother, Eloise. I would watch her do her makeup and get dressed every day. My grandmother did her makeup and her hair every day even if she was going to sit at home. I always knew that when I got older, I would design and be some type of fashion guru because of how much I enjoyed watching my grandmother.

When I was old enough, I enrolled in cosmetology school at this time I had a huge liking for professional makeup and hairstyling. I would enter into different competitions in school and win because my desire for fashion was at an all-time high. After passing the cosmetology exam and gaining my cosmetology license I landed a coaching job for a local middle school as the majorette’s head coach. At the time the school didn’t have any funds to purchase uniforms so I began customizing the majorette’s uniforms for free. At this time, I didn’t take a lot of thought into designing I just began doing it for fun.

From then on, I began designing different denim costumes and customizing different exotic designs for local well know people in the city for different fashion shows and personal requests in which I really enjoyed because I was able to design more freely. After designing for so many different people and getting so many phone calls and requests I decided to launch my very own brand customizing in denim, unique kaftan designs, customized fedoras, and everyday wear.

Now being a well-rounded designer, I have had the opportunity to work with some amazing designers in this city from fashion shows like the “Art of Fashion” by Jeremy Allen to “The Hair Battle Royale” by Quita Tha Razor Chic of Memphis and so many others. I’m so very thankful for where I am and who I’ve become as an infamous designer.

I just want to add that no opportunity would have been presented if it wasn’t for God, I have no other choice but to give all the glory and praises to my lord and savior Jesus Christ because without God none of this would’ve been possible.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Has it been a smooth road?? Of course, not, some days are easy and some are tougher than most. Some days you want to throw in the tile and say forget it all, especially being an exotic designer from Memphis, TN where the majority of the style here is based on popularity and what’s most trendy.

So when it gets tough I just pick myself up on those hard days and trust in God’s promises and keep pushing forward KNOWING that greater is in store for me and that is what pushes me to go harder.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a fashion designer/full-service image consultant providing full coverage image consulting from hair, professional makeup, and customized designing.

Given the fact that I am a licensed Cosmetologist, this is one of the things that makes me so very proud because I am able to utilize every gift that I have for each client based on their total desired look from hair to make up to styling.

On the designing note, I specialize in the refurbishment of denim creating new designs from old denim. Along with that, I customized hand-painted fedoras that have become well known here in the city of Memphis as well.

I try my best not to compare myself to other designs because I feel that every designer has something unique about them and once you compare you become in competition.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is the impact and influence that I have to let people know that no matter where you’re from or how hard it has been you should never give up on your dreams I don’t care how silly it may sound to others because with hard work, consistency, and dedications dreams can become real-life movies with you as the main character.
