Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Howle.
Hi Heather, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a Memphis based artist specializing in mixed media painting and collage. I am self-taught from a young age, and have always been compelled to create. I left behind a career in commercial aviation to pursue art full-time, and now I am married with a family, my baby Louie, and make art.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course it is a struggle to work solely as an artist, especially transitioning from a career. But it was never really a fit for me and the work is so rewarding.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My work focuses on the relationship between pattern and color. While being light and airy, I try to maintain a quality of mystery. My primary medium of choice is acrylic on canvas or paper, with elements of collage. I am maybe most known for my mixed media paterned butterflies ,and the interaction of color in my work tends to set me apart from other artists. I am most proud I stuck with it.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think people will always buy tangible, visual art despite any changes to the industry.
