Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacob Huffman.
Hi Jacob, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I fell in love with the Blues as a child after seeing B.B. King on television. Shortly after at the age of 5 I was given my first harmonica, and couldn’t put it down. At the age of 17 I started playing in my first nightclubs, and really learning how to play from some mentors that became like family to me. I played on the road for a few years with a California based band called the 44s. shortly after I enlisted in the military but have continued playing. Currently stationed in Memphis, I play with Earl “the Pearl” Banks and Blind Mississippi Morris on Beale street frequently.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say being active duty has posed Challenges to being able to gig as much as I would enjoy, but I had always hoped i would be able to get somewhere like Memphis.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Blues harmonica player, I have played since I was 5 years old. I have been lucky enough to perform all around the world, and I’ve been very blessed in the people I have met along the way to help guide me. I try to create my own sound while also trying to blend my greatest influences such as Little Walter, James Cotton, John Lee Williamson, B.B. King, and Buddy Guy and Junior wells. I am very proud of the fact that no matter what is going on in my life I always try to put my music in the forefront. I think that being in the service while also pursuing music sets me apart from others.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I think what I’ve learned along the way is that no matter where you may be in the world, you can seek out musicians and as long as you keep yourself humble you can make friends along the way.
