Daily Inspiration: Meet Jakayla Askew

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakayla Askew

Hi Jakayla, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started when I was 16, as a teenager: I always had a fascination with makeup. In high school I was taking up cosmetology and I would allow girls to come into my class to get their makeup and brows done. Which is where the original passion rooted from for the beauty industry. Fast forward I graduated and became an account manager for a third party at&t firm, within in this company I learned about sales, marketing and customer service. In the company I moved up and became the number one salesperson in the country. I continued to work at the firm until I hit a standstill within the company, and I took that time to reflect on myself. Within this time to reflect I discovered my drive, ambitions and goals. I realized that the dedication that I was putting into the firm is the dedication I could be putting into myself. I quit my job with $1000 and a dream, I worked freelancing jobs and a WFH job up until the point where I had the money to invest in myself by taking a micro shading course for $995, at the time most courses started at $1,800 – $3,000; when I came across this opportunity, I knew I had to grasp it! I took my first course on March 28th, 2021, and then took another course June 27, 2021, after that I took my first client in my dads old tax building. Sometime after that I moved into my suite with my best friend & started developing my brand! The first 5 clients I took I charged only $50 for micro shading, which now for this service I am currently charging $475. That’s why I always live by the quote that “It’s not where you start but where you finish”. Once I took my first couple of models, I decided this Is what I really wanted to do and I went through my apprenticeship program to become licensed. I continued building my brand and 1 month ago I created two reels that went mega viral on Instagram one with 211 million views and 2.7 million likes, the other one with 140 million views and 1.1 million likes which allowed me to grow to 166,000 followers and allowed me to reach 200 million accounts from a mass amount of people located in different states and countries around the world, which is how I got to where I am today!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been easy, within the time between working at the firm and becoming an entrepreneur, I became pregnant and birthed my beautiful daughter Khalani grace. This came with a lot motivation but also hardships of being a single mother. It wasn’t easy but I’m grateful for my support system and I give all glory to God. Being an entrepreneur definitely comes with ups and downs, but you have to learn how to move with the market, continue to walk by faith and remember that through Christ all things are possible.
