Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Ludwig.
Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started as a basketball student manager at UCLA. During that time I decided that I wanted to pursue collegiate coaching. After graduation, I stayed on the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant. After a year of volunteering I received my first college coaching opportunity as the Video Coordinator at Santa Clara University in 2008. A year later I was promoted to Director of Operations. In 2009, I had the opportunity to return to UCLA as the Director. of Scouting and Player Development where I remained for 4 seasons. In 2013, I accepted a position as Director of Operations at Arizona State University. I remained there for 2 seasons. In 2015, I went to Mississippi State as the Director of Operations. In 2016, I had the chance to come back to California where I accepted an Assistant Coach position at Santa Clara University. I am starting my 9th season at Santa Clara University as an assistant coach.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The 2 biggest hurdles in my coaching career were in a span of 3 years I was a part of 2 NCAA Tournament teams and 1 NIT team yet I was a part of 2 coaching staff’s that got fired. It was a really challenging experience but I was fortunate enough to remain in the business and still do really well.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a college basketball coach. I am most proud of recruiting young men to come play at our great university and helping them become great basketball players but more importantly great young men. I am humbled to be a part of that process.
How do you define success?
My definition of success as a coach is to help our young men get the most our their potential and opportunity both on and off the court.
