Daily Inspiration: Meet Joe (Big Hustle) Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe (Big Hustle) Thompson

Hi Big Hustle, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve loved music since my first time hearing it.and could understand it. I wanted to be apart of music,I wanted to know how and where music was made and who made music. My uncle Harold (Big boy) Payne would let me clean his poolhall after school sometimes for pocket money. I would have quarters to put in the jukebox, I would dance and perform for a empty poolhall. (Just me) My older sister was a majorette for the high school I use to get to stay after school with her I would always end up in the Band Hall watching the Drum line .Mr Jerome Smith would let me carry drum in with the band to get in the football games for free just because I was always around the band….after Moving to Memphis Tennessee my 11th grade year. I became best friends with a guy who was writing raps going to a home studio to record…I felt like i was getting closer to my passion… one Saturday I was invited to go .to that studio I was nervous for the next 5 days, palm sweating and overwhelmed that I would finally get to go to a studio to record and make a song…I wrote about 20 different raps that week with no beat .and was so anxious that the day of the studio I forgot to even bring my rap folder with me .so now I’m finally in a studio and forgot my raps… but once I heard the instrumental I immediately started writing new lyrics and my first song was actually Hot 🔥 enough to be featured on a Memphis Underground Mixtape…sold in all mom’s and pops store in Memphis.from there I joined a Rap Group were my talent would take me even further than my mind could process at the time ..Mr.CollegePark from Atlanta was very interested in our sound and invited us to Atlanta Georgia..that was the biggest thing that I had ever experience..I felt like a superstar being on the road being booked for shows, performing for packed clubs being interviewed and invited to venues..I was right where I wanted to be and doing what I dreamed and loved to do ,when the group took a turn for the worst and split up over a bad business decision and everybody went there separate ways I was crushed and felt like someone was trying to turn my dream to a nightmare. By me being in and out of major studios by this time…I had learned the basics needs of recording vocals and making beats. I worked a job for 7 months to save up money for studio equipment…after 8 months i built my own personal home studio…and was recording unknown artist around the neighborhood for $20hr to make my money back I had invested in the studio equipment..from there my sound, craft, ideas and talent would keep me busy working getting my sound into the ears of people in bigger places..doing so I was able to write and create the Introduction to the (BOMB SQUAD) Morning Show on Hot 107.l Fm radio station for Doc and Tina Tilton..that played every morning at 6:00 M-F , to hear myself every morning waking The City of Memphis up was like winning a Grammy or an Oscar my studio clientele increased my beat Productions was heating up.. I took home first place Trophy in the Summer Jam fest at Dream land in Holly springs Ms..that would be 1 of a few…that’s when I got the bright idea of starting my own Label and Entertainment,(Net House Productions /J&J entertainment) but something was still missing .. that was the visuals to go with the music..did my research on videography cinematography and photography went and enrolled in school learned how to use tools and cameras to shoot and Edit music videos and short Films.. where I am today im really blessed and honored to be..I’m not where I would like to be yet but I’m consistently working, growing and getting better. I’m also proud to say I’m JoeViddyFilms I’m 4yrs in still going and growing ,still offering full studio services and beat production..

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My Mother was one of my biggest supporters and fans ,she attended All of my in town showsand one or two outta town shows .she became sick and diagnosed with cancer…i immediately came in off the road from traveling with the Rap Group to aid and assist her with everyday life and living .I was mad and upset that I chose to pause my career to help my mother not knowing it would be the best move of my career…just helping her the way I did I was able to upgrade my entire studio go back to school, see and put a smile on her face in last days.. after her passing I struggled for a year reminiscing about the good times and great time ..I didn’t make any music or do nothing in my studio for like 6/7 months until she visited me in my dreams and asked me why was i stalling when I should be balling….but loosing moms was the biggest struggle this far.
