Daily Inspiration: Meet Juda Hensley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Juda Hensley.

Hi Juda, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Hungary (Budapest), where I was a well-known stylist, then my now-husband came into my life and this may sound cheesy, but he is everything I ever dreamed of, and knowing I can do this job anywhere in the world, ended up in the Memphis area.

I started off late and tried myself in many different jobs (I was a personal trainer for several years, worked on cruise ships, etc.) when one day, I woke up and realized there was one childhood dream that for some reason hasn’t come up yet. Being a hairstylist.

Since that day, my life has changed. It sounds like a cliché, but true that find a profession you love and you never have to work again.

As a kid, I played with dolls and cut all my Barbie’s hair, of course, may experiment a little with cutting my own bangs, but who doesn’t? But I clearly remember from a young age when they asked “What do you want to be when you grow up?” my answer was: a hairstylist! 28 years later, I started my journey.

Early in my studies, I caught the attention of the Hungarian brand distributors of TIGI who offered me a colorist educator stylist position as soon as I received my license, and I had the chance to learn from some great names in the industry from London through Hamburg to educate my fellow hairstylist colleagues in Budapest.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think when you find your path the universe helps guide you along the way. Even my temporary difficulties ended up as major positive changes.

Like, when it’s time for change: places, people – it seems hard, or some situations that used to make me happy and not anymore, that’s when I knew it was time to let go. And sometimes, I was in denial for a little while before the veil fell off my eyes.

But whenever I made a decision, I almost immediately got a “sign” or positive feedback from above that I did the right thing. This helped me through the hardships, I always listened to my heart, even when others didn’t agree with me.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hairstylist all the way from Europe, I had the chance to learn some of the greatest names in the industry which gave me different visions on hair. I specialized in hair coloring and cutting techniques. I master new techniques fast and easy and my main skill is definitely that I have a great understanding of hair and people and find what suits my clients the best both cut and color-wise.

I have great communication skills even though English is my second language, and find a voice with everybody. I build trust with all my clients, because if you think about it who else touches your head/hair besides your loved ones? I know when they need me to stay quiet, or when my client needs some support or a deep conversation to get it off their chests.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My definition of success is when you love what you do and it provides you a good living. Once someone said that doing hair is the most rewarding profession!

You get to see your client’s reaction immediately and get paid right after. Hairstylists are the happiest. Or at least, I am a happy one for sure!
