Daily Inspiration: Meet Kayla Bradford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Bradford.

Hi Kayla, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my graphic design business in 2019. This was the year I decided that I would invest in myself and start some type of business.

I took my tax return and participated in a braiding class and a 1on1 design class with a graphic designer I connected with from Jamaica. Prior to this, I was creating simple graphics on my phone for my sister’s business. Once I completed the graphic design class, I knew what I wanted to do.

I kept in contact with my design mentor for a few months and she helped me begin my business. Through networking, hard work, and dedication I am thankfully going into 4 years of business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I still have days now where I struggle with being a full-time employee, a wife, and an entrepreneur. The most challenging time I’ve had within my business thus far would have to be when I was in college.

I attended classes and clinical 4-5 days out of the week and I worked part-time on the weekends. Graphic design is a very time-consuming craft so it was challenging to manage time and maintain creativity during that time.

But thankfully enough I made it through and continue to make it through no matter what life obstacles interfere with my business.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a surgical technologist! I absolutely love my career as much as I love my business. I currently work in Labor and Delivery so I have the joy of seeing new life daily!

I’ve also had the privilege of assisting in open-heart surgery as well! I’d like to say my business is known for creating vibrant and clean designs. One item that I’m known for is my retractable banners.

I’ve shipped them to several states. I think wholeheartedly loving my career and my business and having the ability to strive in both is what makes me the proudest.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I think deciding to become an entrepreneur is a risk within itself. I’ve taken risks by reaching out to higher-end clients. Even when I didn’t work with the client I still tried again.

I’ve also taken risks with inventory and investments, not all were successful but I don’t regret the risk I’ve taken.

Risk-taking happens every day as an entrepreneur, I think they are meant to be embraced.
