Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Hankins
Hi Kelsey , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started designing clothes when I received my first sewing machine around age 9. I finished high school at 15 and started my Studies at the University of Memphis with a major in fashion design. Since graduating in 2022 I’ve been featured in many shows throughout memphis and I’m currently making customs for clients while also developing my ready to wear line while also trying to expand my social media presence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since I started my academic career a lot earlier than most people, of course I ran into some challenges along the way but I’ve never let anything deter me from my goals.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make custom designs for people but I also develop my own seasonal lines that i display in my shows. I specialize in women’s clothing for all ages but I occasionally develop something for the men as well. Something that I specialize in is being able to make clothing for any individual that is perfectly tailored to their bodies and also their specific personality. If I had to pick an icon to describe my clothing style it would be Fran drescher. And I’ve always loved her style since I was a little girl, but I can easily alter and translate that to fit my specific clients needs, while still keeping true to my style of designing.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up in a small town with very little to do so I really had to make my own fun.
Growing up I was always trying new hobbies and exploring different crafts like crocheting, knitting, drawing, hair braiding, singing etc just to name a few. But the one that I’ve remained true to after all of these years is designing.
