Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevia Johnson.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began this business in 2020 in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although it was a very tough year, the balloon industry was booming and I jumped right in. I had knowledge of ballooning from working at a local party store during my high school and college years. I decided to take what I knew and perfect it.
Being an entrepreneur is a dream, but it was not what I thought I’d be doing. With my master’s degree in Business Administration, I had big plans on becoming a healthcare administrator. I soon realized that it was not the move for me. I wanted to be my own boss and that’s what I did.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are many struggles faced with becoming an entrepreneur and business owner. One of the first challenges I had to overcome was myself. I had to get out of my head and put myself and my business out there. I took my doubts, fears, and insecurities locked them up in a little box, and threw away the key.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Pretty Fancy Events specializes in luxury balloon styling for any occasion. We also offer event rentals such as marquee numbers, champagne walls, shimmer walls, and much more.
I am most proud of how much my skills have improved. There is always room for growth, and over the last year, I can definitely see how much my skills as a creative have advanced.
You know the saying “When you do what you love you’ll never have to work a day in your life.” Yes, this is a business but it is something I truly enjoy and I think that shows in my work.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis definitely gave me time to pause and reflect on the importance of life, my relationship with Christ, and my loved ones. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that everything doesn’t have to be perfect in life in order for me to be happy. I just have to be grateful.
