Daily Inspiration: Meet Linneka Watson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linneka Watson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello, I am Linneka Watson, owner of Linneka’s Kreative Studio! I started pursuing graphic design professionally in 2017. However, my journey started in high school. During my sophomore year, I decided that I wanted to run for class president. With that came campaigning.

I needed posters and other materials but was unsure of who would create them. So, I created them myself. People soon started noticing my work and asked who made it.

It was a hobby for me that would later turn into professional work. I started to receive commissions for flyers, logos, business cards, and more! My principal even hired me to create the official schedule for our basketball team! Even as a self-taught graphic designer, I created enough work for my professional portfolio before heading to college.

After graduating from high school, I attended Grambling State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing. I took advantage of any opportunities on and off campus to showcase my work while earning my degree. I even worked as an intern at KQ Communications from 2019 until I graduated.

After graduating, I was hired by KQ as a Graphic Design Specialist and have been managing this role along with Linneka’s Kreative Studio since!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I am lucky and privileged to say that my journey was not one that was necessarily a struggle. However, getting where I am today took hard work, determination, and faith.

Again, I am a self-taught graphic designer with the exception of a few helping hands and some professional development courses. Learning how to use programs such as photoshop and illustrator was not as easy as I expected, but I got through it!

Starting a business young helped me grow and realize what it means to be a boss. I became more disciplined and focused. I grew to understand that I was becoming the full force behind my own brand.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Currently, I am employed at KQ Communications as a full-time Graphic Design Specialist.

As for Linneka’s Kreative Studio, I specialize in exquisite graphics. Creating flyers, logos, and other graphics for clients allow me to bring their visions to life through my own creativity.

It has been amazing to hear people rave about my work. It pushes me to keep thriving, learning new skills, and perfecting my expertise.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is a bonding experience I had with my grandfather.

He had the bright idea to take a long bike ride from his house, through the city, and end at my grandmother’s house. I wasn’t sure what I had signed up for on this bike ride, but I’m glad I committed. We had conversations about life that taught me a few things on that ride.

I got to take the coolest adventure with my best friend and I cherish that memory with him. My grandfather was my favorite person, and growing up with him by my side was everything I could have ever wanted.
