Daily Inspiration: Meet Malik Ca$h

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malik Ca$h.

Malik Ca$h

Hi, Malik; thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a 20-year-old artist from Philadelphia, Mississippi. I grew up around music. I aim to make songs that take you on a journey and give you the ultimate listening experience. My mom played music all the time, so music is my DNA. But my hip-hop journey started while watching an older cousin make music. At 12 years old, I was hooked immediately. I listened to and studied art and culture from sun up until sundown. Eventually, I got recording equipment piece by piece until I had enough to begin recording. The first song I let anyone hear was a school anthem that I made. To my surprise, it was well received, and since that time, I have not looked back. I have been going harder and harder ever since. I touch music daily and always try to improve my craft. My influences are everyone in the culture, from the artists, producers, dancers, video directors, and the hip-hop fans who put it down daily for the culture and to ensure that hip-hop has a platform. My music influences span the globe of all genres. And because I listen to so many of my styles of music, my creativity has no limits when it comes to making music. I truly appreciate the art form of music and work to make sure my music reflects that.

Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road could have been smoother, but it has come with some challenges. Early on, the biggest challenge was my age. I began rapping at age 14. At that age, very few people took me seriously or viewed what I was doing and wanted to do as a fad or trend. Another obstacle was becoming where I reside. Coming from a small town like Philadelphia, there aren’t any studios, and the opportunities to hear your music, whether performing, promoting, or word of mouth, weren’t there. Any opportunity required me to travel, which is still the case today. Continuing my education also presented its share of challenges. The school work always came before the music, and not going to college was not an option. I have spent many nights studying for tests while juggling studio time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to become more familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
My chosen career path is being a recording artist and spreading my wings from there as other doors begin to open. However, music is my passion, and it is not something that I take lightly. Honestly, I have had quite a few proud moments in the six years I have been making music. I have been fortunate to perform on the same stage as Money Bagg Yo. I have also been in studio recording with renowned producer Zaytoven and viral artist Akeem Ali. Those are proud moments but well-earned and life-changing experiences. I can’t say what sets me apart from others because I am just me. I never try to be something or someone that I’m not. We all are uniquely different, and I embrace that to the fullest when making music.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs, or other resources you think our readers should check?
There are no apps, books, podcasts, etc., that particularly stand out. I am a sponge for knowledge and growth, so I am there for anything that captures my attention.
