Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Wade
Hi Mike, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Michael Wade (aka Gritsmitten) is a musician, audiovisual artist, and entrepreneur from Memphis, TN.
He has a degree in Audio Engineering and Business from Middle Tennessee State University, where he studied with professors including Dr.Don Aliquo, Dr.Joseph Akins, and Dr.Joseph Morgan.
Upon Graduation, Michael returned to the Memphis area, where he pursued his interests as a performing musician until his career took an unexpected turn. A missed diagnosis of Lyme disease rendered him unable to perform live music for almost five years.
It was during this ordeal that he entered a period of self-discovery, which turned him into the creative force that he is today.
Under the name Gritsmitten, Michael boasts an arsenal of creative content, mixing, mastering, and musical abilities that command respect. His navigation of social media, musical savvy, and entrepreneurial spirit have garnered a following of content that is both entertaining and vastly educational.
His signature sample packs and beats are available on his website and you can find him on all social media platforms as well as Youtube.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Dealing with Lyme disease taking me out of performing was the biggest struggle, but it did change my path from being a performing musician to focusing on producing.
Now, being a father I focus on making beats, sample packs and producing for different artists in many genres which is something I never focused on before lyme disease.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My focus on originality in my sound synthesis sets me apart from other producers in the area. From old keyboards, modular synths, and experimental /vintage foot pedals. I enjoy creating sounds in the tracks I produce that I know won’t show up in any other tracks.
What matters most to you?
Creating something that will trigger an emotional response in the listener and keep them coming back to hear it. hopefully, I make something that will outlive me.
