Today we’d like to introduce you to Racheal Walker. She and her team share their story with us below:
SafevieW started as a backless car phone holder idea. She wanted to encourage reducing the percentage of injury reports that happen every year in car accidents by securing a cellular device into a stationary position during transit.
The idea was to save the driver time, frustration, and distractions by allowing their phone to stay in its case with wallets or grippers attached to the back passing through the holder along with easy access to the auxiliary cord and charger.
As she began her journey into creating the phone holder on a napkin in a Chick-fil-A parking lot; she noticed that she was carrying a laptop, iPad, chargers, purse, and more. She noticed she was carrying two to three bags everywhere; she expanded her company from phone accessories to handbags and travel luggage. Her business is built on fashion and functionality working together.”
Combining the purposes together such as a backpack and USB charger allowing it to charge your devices, store your devices, and keep you mobile same time. All of SafevieW’s handbags, carry-ons, diaper bags, wallets, rolling luggage, handbags, and more offer minimalization! We are striving to bring our clients luxury handbags and travel luggage that offer anti-theft benefits (RFID blocking and anti-theft pockets) with genuine or vegan leather finishes to our products. The goal is to minimize your bags while having a safe view of your technology devices and personal belongings in our creation!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, nothing worth creating or building comes smoothly or easily. I am a twenty-seven-year-old black female in America. The odds are created to keep the outsiders well out and the idea of wealth just that, an idea. My obstacle is capital. My personal credit is excellent and my debt to ratio is lower than 25%.
I have done the proper paperwork and obtained the team members to align my vision with. Here is the fun, business credit is hard to work on and build if financial institutions do not want to lend to a start-up but would love to give me a personal loan or line of credit against my personal credit. I am not referring to “collateral” again my credit is very strong and pretty much can be waived if institutions’ representatives want to. Financial institution(s) have even suggested I take the equity out of the home I purchased just two years ago!
Some have even asked about nonrelevant information, I do have friends who are bankers and they guide me on the outlines of the process. I do not believe in mixing friendships and business. So, in conclusion, the traditional way of bank lending is not my route. I am looking for joint ventures, grants, and things among that line. Last week, I sold my SUV to my business! I am extremely proud of this moment. This alone has opened a way of success. Cannot share too much, I do not want to curse my good faith plan.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I was born and raised in Collierville, Tennessee. I am a graduate of The University of Middle Tennessee State University. While at MTSU, I studied Construction Standards in London, United Kingdom. While in school, I received The Student of the Year award for restarting the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) Student Chapter along with receiving multiple awards and scholarships.
At my immediate past job, I worked as a Mechanical Estimator in the Office of Kiewit Water Division, where I had around 12 wastewater treatment plant projects majority of the projects being in the mechanical pipe system. Prior to being employed with Kiewit, I worked as an Assistant Project Manager Intern in the Office of Lee Company and worked on projects $500,000 and under. I successfully complete projects ranging from electrical renovations to electrical new construction.
I am currently the Planner Estimator at one of the colleges here in Memphis. Since transitioning to the Office of Facilities Development, I focus my practice on updating procedures and plans, estimates (Construction Procurement), and managing single and multiple discipline internally funded major maintenance projects. I now use my strong work ethic, principal nature, and significant experience/knowledge obtained from my previous work history to achieve the best results for my clients and colleagues. For those who know the Construction World, I have my CDT + CCPR certifications and Level 1 Xactimate Certified.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Businesses all compete in one way or another. It may be with specific, direct competitors or it may be with the way customers have loyalty to doing things for a long time. They solve their problem in different ways. We have identified our competition and our competitors are not foreseeing to provide products or services to solve the same problem we are addressing. SafevieW has an advantage over not one but all our competitors.
Our company will stand front and center for solving a problem a consumer sees as unsolvable. That is less is more people are wanting more for their hard earn money and we are here to provide that luxury to them. Minimalist retail is the future and we will see you there!
