Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Ransom
Hi Robin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I always had a love and passion for fashion, nails and hair! As a little girl I would always want my nails done and wanted to experiment with different hairstyles. My mom made sure I knew how to care for my hair and as I got older she let me try different styles. My family members always let me practice on their hair as well, my love for the industry grew even more!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No it hasn’t always been a smooth journey. There was a point in the beginning where I struggled to gain clientele. I worked crazy hours just to make a little money. My now husband and I would go everywhere and put flyers on cars and in mailboxes, lol we even got put off the news parking lot for doing so!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a hairstylist/colorist. I specialize in color, natural hair, and silk presses all while keeping the integrity of hair! Healthy hair is my main focus! I started a hashtag #NORELAXERONKIDS because being a mother of young girls I wanted them to embrace their natural hair! I wanted them to experiment with more natural styling without thinking they needed a relaxer and bone straight hair beyond a silk press. I’m also known for some of my wild colors which some of them have been inspired by flowers, food and basically things that I love! These things give me an idea of what I want to create with my canvas/client!
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Yes!!!! One of the most important lessons that I’ve learned is to take NOTHING for granted. I was off at the salon for 4 months! The first time I had been off since I was 18. The time off with my family was so amazing we didn’t realize how much we missed out on, simple things like sitting down and having dinner or pancakes on Saturday morning was so missed and truly needed! I took the time to take any online classes that were available. I thoroughly enjoyed the color courses!
