Daily Inspiration: Meet Sherri Benson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Benson.

Sherri Benson

Hi Sherri, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sherri pronounced Sheree (Don’t talk about how my momma chose to spell and say my name) I’m a Professional sassy girl, owner of The Stylists Place salon suite in Cordova, and creator of the Sassy Girl Extraordinary Haircare product line. How I got started? Hmmm!

Let’s take a look back to the year 1988 when my parents got me my first Barbie mannequin head after that it was history in the making. I was so passionate and determined to be a Professional Hairstylist. It was a zeal inside of me that would not go away. I finally got serious in my late twenties with my career choices and was determined to finish school get a license and practice what I love. It was a road to explore. Yes, I can say it was not easy.

Divorced with four kids to raise and stepping out to build a clientele/business takes time while still being young and trying to find myself starting was the biggest challenge. I made some choices to follow and trust God You know they say when you tell God your plans, he will laugh at you. But I decided to follow his plan without knowing all his details and it has turned out he knows best. I’m still on the job training today.

My Faith has taken me a lot further than my fears so I just get up and show up allowing God to continue to show out through me. So, these last 23 years as a stylist and 6 years as a business owner have been nothing short of amazing. I look forward to what is next for me as I continue to make my brand a household name.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I think about the struggles, I can truly laugh now lol. The struggles come when you don’t know who you are and what you are called to do. Me having to be present for women as a hairstylist, a listener, a counselor a judge a mentor a sister, and a friend. When I was growing into one was a challenge at first.

Making them look beautiful, be bold, and feel sassy when I didn’t feel beautiful when I wasn’t walking in my boldness, and looking and feeling Sassy was my biggest challenge. Having to overcome those fears and step out be free to not look, act, or behave like everyone else.

What’s professional, classy women look like wasn’t what I was looking like. I have this blonde-looking hair and in the early 2000s, it was challenging for those whom I serviced. But I remained confident in who I was. Remained true to myself and it sold it. It’s branded now (smile).
