Daily Inspiration: Meet Tara Wills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Wills.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started Simply Bold Events with my now husband in 2018. He is a creative as well and a chef, so building something together felt natural for us. The name itself reflects our personalities. I chose “Simply,” and he chose “Bold,” which perfectly captures the balance we bring to both life and business.

Event design and planning celebrations has been a passion of mine since I was a little girl. One of the earliest stories my mom tells is how I planned my own 8th birthday party in our backyard. Even then, I loved creating moments that made people feel special.

Events became even more meaningful to me after having my first son, who has sickle cell disease. That experience changed my perspective on life and made me appreciate just how important joy, togetherness, and celebrating milestones truly are. It deepened my desire to create experiences where families can pause, make memories, and cherish time with the people they love.

What started as a shared dream has grown into a business that allows us to use our gifts to serve others through creativity, food, and unforgettable celebrations. Every event we create is rooted in heart, purpose, and the belief that life’s moments deserve to be celebrated in a bold and beautiful way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has taught me something valuable. Like many entrepreneurs, one of the biggest struggles was the learning curve. Starting a business requires you to wear so many hats at once: creative, marketer, accountant, customer service, planner, and a lot of those lessons come through trial and error.

There were also moments of anxiety and self doubt that came with building something from the ground up. When you care deeply about your work, the pressure can feel heavy at times. I’ve had to learn how to trust myself, keep going, and not let fear make decisions for me.

Another challenge was learning how to maintain our personal relationship separately from the business. Building a company with your spouse can be rewarding, but it also takes communication, boundaries, and making sure the business doesn’t overshadow your relationship.

I’ve also learned that not everyone will understand your vision or support your journey, especially in the beginning. That can be discouraging, but it teaches you to stay focused and believe in yourself even when others don’t yet see what you see.

And of course, finances. Money is a real challenge for many small business owners. There are seasons where you have to invest back into the business, take risks, and stay committed even when things feel uncertain.

While it hasn’t always been easy, those struggles have shaped me into a stronger business owner and person. They’ve taught me resilience, patience, and the importance of staying true to the vision.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My professional journey has allowed me to work in both business and service driven roles, which has shaped the way I lead today. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in healthcare marketing, admissions, community outreach, utilization review, and business development. Those roles gave me experience in relationship building, strategic growth, problem solving, and connecting individuals and families with the resources they need during important moments in their lives.

At the same time, I’ve built Simply Bold Events, where I specialize in event design, décor, planning, and creating memorable experiences for families, schools, corporate clients, and community organizations. I’m known for bringing creativity, professionalism, and heart into every project while making clients feel supported throughout the process.

What I’m most proud of is earning my college degree in four years while raising a baby, and then continuing on to earn my MBA. That accomplishment represents determination, discipline, and my commitment to creating opportunities for myself and my family.

Early in my career, my passion was centered around serving others and connecting the community with valuable resources. That passion still lives in me, but it has expanded into business development and helping organizations grow. I genuinely enjoy finding opportunities, building partnerships, and helping businesses reach the next level.

What sets me apart is that I bring both creativity and strategy to everything I do. I understand people, I understand business, and I know how to turn ideas into experiences, partnerships, and results. Whether I’m planning an event, growing a brand, or creating connections in the community, I lead with purpose and authenticity.

How do you define success?
I define success as freedom, growth, and impact. Freedom to create the life I want, provide for my family, and have the flexibility to be present for the people who matter most to me. Growth means never staying stagnant, always learning, evolving, and challenging myself to reach new levels personally and professionally.

Success for me is also about impact. It is knowing that I’ve used my talents to help others, whether that is creating memorable experiences through my business, connecting people with valuable resources, or helping another organization grow through strategy and relationship building.

I also define success as resilience. I’m proud of every season I’ve had to push through, every obstacle I’ve overcome, and every goal I’ve continued to pursue despite challenges. Success is not just the outcome, it is the person you become in the process.

Most importantly, success means building a legacy. Creating opportunities for my children, showing them what determination looks like, and proving that with faith, hard work, and vision, you can build something meaningful from the ground up.
