Hi ThunderGun, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I originally jumped into the Memphis music scene in a couple of cover bands. Between playing Led Zeppelin to Ozzy covers, I’ve hit a lot of genres and bands in my years. However, my friends and I got around to forming what we believe to be our prodigy child, ThunderGun: featuring myself (Michael Ragsdale), Griffin Taylor, Ella McCalister, and Jeff Burch. While we’re still a little torn on what genre we particularly fit into, we would all agree we bring a heavy sound to your ears. However, we always strive to make something that everyone can listen to. As long as it’s loud!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, starting a band in general always has its obstacles. Whether it be schedule conflicts with shows or rehearsals, band funds being low in order to keep a consistent amount of merch stocked, or even commitment to the band itself, they’re all challenges we’ve crossed. Of course, the biggest struggle is simply getting your name out there. What can you do to separate yourself from the other acts in town? What’s something that’ll make people want to come out and see your show versus someone else’s? Yet, between all that, it’s worth every single second of it. The moment we hit that stage, it’s all about the music and the connection we all have with it and with each other.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are a heavy metal/rock band from Memphis, Tennessee called ThunderGun. So far, we are most proud of premiering album “Between Myth and Madness.” We believe what sets us apart from others is that we strive to create a sound that you cannot find anywhere else. We always are looking for that next big sound and strive to release music that people from all genres can enjoy.
What does success mean to you?
In music, it’s hard to draw the line for success. For us, success changes after each accomplishment we make. When we were just starting, we thought that success was opening for a much bigger touring band on a great stage. After that, we thought success was recording an album and releasing that and now that we have, we just keep the ball rolling. We never know where we’ll end up next, but that’s what makes it exciting! Every show is a success to us, simply because we enjoy expressing ourselves in our music, no matter how big the crowd or venue.
