My sister got a Sony Cybershot in 2008, and at 12 years old, I began taking photos around the house. As a teenager, my hobby led to impressive pictures on family trips and outings.
After immigrating from Venezuela, I worked in various fields to save up for my first camera. Starting with Easter photos for people I met, I later became a second shooter at weddings. Despite a challenging beginning during COVID-19, my business thrived with my husband’s unwavering support.
I expanded my business by networking with friends and relying on word of mouth. I aim to provide a fun, personalized experience as ‘THE HYPE GIRL’ for my clients, understanding their unique personalities and preferences.
Currently, I am in the process of separating my persona as Virginia Puche, photographer, and studio owner from my wedding photography business. While weddings represent ethereal moments that I strive to capture, my photoshoots embody fun and personality, and I seek to excel in both aspects.
Aiming for top leadership in the Memphis wedding industry, my work is driven by passion and creating genuine connections with clients, who later become cherished friends. As a woman, immigrant, and Latina, I bring the warmth of my roots to the photography community in this city.
Focused on curating quality content over quantity on social media, I believe excellence lies in capturing the essence of simple moments during events and photoshoots, rather than striving for perfection.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been entirely smooth, especially with the challenges posed by COVID-19 when I started my business. I faced initial difficulties but persevered with the unwavering support of my husband. Additionally, the process of establishing and growing my business involved navigating through various industries, from customer service to construction and painting houses, as I saved up for my first camera. Despite these challenges, I have continuously strived to provide a fun and personalized experience for my clients, prioritizing their unique personalities and preferences.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
In my photography business, creativity is at the heart of what I do as a graphic designer. My specialty lies in capturing a wide range of moments, from photoshoots including family, maternity, kids, and birthday celebrations, to the profound significance of wedding photography.
What fills me with pride is my work in wedding photography, where I get to be a part of a couple’s special day as they embark on their journey together. It’s a deeply emotional experience for me to witness and capture moments like the first dance, vows, and the tender last dance. Being able to contribute to these moments and create lasting memories is what sets my approach apart in the industry.
Respect towards cultures, religions, beliefs, and preferences is low-key my hook for every ceremony that I attend as a photographer, from ethnic weddings, to religious ones, I have done it all, and respect and trust always come first.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
For those just starting out, I advise you to stay true to your unique style and vision. It’s essential to continually challenge yourself and draw inspiration from diverse sources, while staying true to your unique creativity.
Do not underestimate the importance of client satisfaction and word-of-mouth referrals. Yes, social media is essential, but I keep my weeks booked by being extra special with my clients because they will choose me every time they need anything, and they will recommend my work.
