Today we’d like to introduce you to Cole Cooney & Devin White.
Hi Cole & Devin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
The idea of me starting my clothing line started going into my freshman year of college. I’ve always had a passion for fashion and art, but I wasn’t certain in which direction I wanted to go in with my passion. At such a young age, I always knew that I would fall through with being into the fashion scene, but so many obstacles and tribulations, I faced at such a young age, made me question my reality and what I really wanted to do with my future.
Going into my freshman year of college, I felt lost with myself and was trying to really mold my true passion and sense of purpose for my future, but I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted to do. Though I did play basketball and football, I knew that it wasn’t something that really sparked my interest long term.
Being far away from home with a smaller support system than I had before, and losing family members and friends left and right, showed me a certain lifestyle that I haven’t experienced before, and times got really difficult to the point where I had to question myself and my purpose constantly which put me in a low depression state.
One night in August of 2020, my mother sent me a message that changed my perception of everything that I was going through with my mental health and lit that flame that I always had in me. That same month I came together with my brother Devin White who focused on graphic design and art and came together with a mission to become inspiring entrepreneurs and businessmen in the fashion scene by expressing art through our clothing.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The journey of anything in life is never a smooth path.
Our biggest struggle for us is finding the best quality serviced manufacturers for our clothing. I remember starting out with barely any t-shirts for our first clothing drop, and my brother going through so much ink, paint, and t-shirts just to get certain designs to come out right and traveling to different parts of the state to go pick up samples and clothes to sell.
We also had many times where manufacturers spent months coming out with samples that didn’t come out right and had many computer issues that cost us. We have now started to do certain printing and clothing techniques that a manufacturer would do, but right at home to help save time, money, and stress.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
MAKE IT COUNT is a clothing brand that pushes a way of life and motto for daily life that stands out in the name itself.
Our motto is “Make everything count, not just numbers” which states that even though everyone’s daily life consists of chasing the values and life money can bring, we also want to push the values of life itself and to live a lifestyle that pushes to boundaries you thought you couldn’t break through and to inspire others to strive in whatever direction that is towards the true fulfillment and success of a person’s purpose of life from all the hardships and obstacles that they went through to get to that certain altitude of life. We specialize in many different areas of fashion.
From shirts, beanies, hoodies, custom denim, sweatsuits, hats, and accessories. Our message is what sets us apart because we want to do more than just clothes, we want to give back to the community in a positive manner and share our purpose and story to help inspire others. We push to come out with new pieces and clothing in a quick timely manner with a certain theme or message with top-tier quality with our new clothing pieces.
I’m most proud of how I and my brother came from scratch and did everything on our own and didn’t let the hard obstacles break us, and to see how much we’ve inspired others in such a very early stage of the business, the feeling is unmatched.
We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as accomplishing the true intention of your everyday life. I don’t define success as having a bunch of materialistic items, but as in what your purpose in life is.
What’s your reasoning for doing what you do? I define success as bringing a game plan and sticking to it throughout anything that comes your way, taking yourself out of your comfort zone, and putting you in many different situations that you never thought you’d have to do.
I define it as not just making a goal and once you get to that goal you feel satisfied, it should be the character that was built along the way and turning everything, you dreamed about into reality and inspiring others along the way and after you reach that success.
