Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Bowman
Hi Jay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started when I was just 16. As a true DIYer and a “girlie girl” at heart, I loved experimenting with different butters, oils, and fragrances, just to see how they blended together and how the texture would turn out. I was always up on the newest trends and products, so when I tried a scrub from a well-known company, I instantly loved the scent and the feel of it on my skin. But there was one problem—it ran out way too quickly because the texture was so runny.
As someone who loves to create, I couldn’t just sit with that. So, I decided to make my own scrub. The first step was researching the ingredients in my favorite scrub. That’s when I learned something shocking: the ingredients were actually terrible for my skin. So, I dove deeper into researching better, more nourishing ingredients to use, and started experimenting with the right mix to create a scrub that not only felt luxurious but would last longer because the texture wasn’t runny.
At first, I made the scrubs just for myself, but soon enough, people started noticing how soft and glowing my skin looked. They asked what I was using, and when I told them I was making the scrubs myself, they encouraged me to sell them. And so, I did! My scrubs quickly became a hit, and that’s when everything changed.
Now, I’ve expanded to a full line of body products that are not only amazing for your skin but will also leave you smelling delicious—almost edible! What started as a little DIY project has grown into something I’m incredibly proud of, and I’m so thankful for the support and encouragement that helped me get here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think every entrepreneur has experienced bumps in the road. Mine simply were the constant research in butters and oils and the cost of that research. It’s expensive starting your own business.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My business is all about creating high-quality, handmade body products that nourish the skin and leave you smelling absolutely amazing. I specialize in scrubs, but over the years, I’ve expanded to a full line of body care products—everything from body butter to bath soaks, each crafted with the best ingredients to give your skin the love it deserves.
What sets my brand apart is the focus on using natural, skin-loving ingredients that are not only effective but safe. I take pride in making products that feel luxurious and are designed to last, unlike many mass-produced products that use artificial fillers and cheap ingredients. I started this business because I wanted to create something real, something that’s both good for your skin and indulgent, so that every time you use it, you feel pampered.
What I’m most proud of is how my brand has grown from a personal DIY project to a trusted line of body care products. The feedback I’ve gotten from customers—how they feel and how their skin reacts—drives everything I do. My brand is all about self-care and confidence. When you use my products, I want you to feel like you’re treating yourself to something special every single time.
One thing I always want readers to know is that my products are made with love and care. I’m committed to providing high-quality, handmade body products that don’t just smell good but are genuinely beneficial for your skin. Whether you’re looking to hydrate, exfoliate, or just treat yourself to something that feels luxurious, my products are made to make you feel good inside and out.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I’m definitely someone who believes that taking risks is essential for growth, especially in business. When I first started my body products line, the biggest risk I took was deciding to turn my DIY hobby into a real business. I didn’t have any formal training in skincare or business, and I was stepping into a competitive market. But I was passionate about the products I was creating, and I knew there was a need for high-quality, skin-friendly body care.
The first major risk I took was actually investing in creating a full line of products and making them available to the public. I wasn’t sure how people would respond, and there was always that fear of failure. But at the same time, I knew if I didn’t take that leap, I’d never know what could come of it. Once I started seeing the positive reactions from customers, I realized that the risk had been worth it.
Since then, I’ve taken other risks—whether it’s expanding my product line, trying new marketing strategies, or just taking on new challenges in the business. Risk-taking is a part of pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone, and it’s something I embrace as part of my journey.
When it comes to risk, I think it’s all about balance. There’s always an element of uncertainty, but you have to believe in your product and your vision. Sometimes the biggest rewards come from stepping out and taking that chance. So, while it’s not always easy, I’ve learned that taking risks is a necessary part of building something meaningful and unique.
