Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakeidra Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in a small Mississippi town in a household that was anything but ordinary. With four generations living under the same roof, I quickly learned to thrive in chaos and communicate effectively with people of all ages. For as long as I can remember, I have loved technology. Computers, cellphones, the internet, it all fascinated me.
Even though I was only four, I still vividly remember the first time I used a computer. My sister sat me on her lap in front of her desktop computer and let me guide the mouse as we browsed the web. I savored every moment. In a world yet to be flooded with Wi-Fi and smartphones, I was astounded by what this remarkable contraption – this marvel – in front of me was capable of.
I continued to love technology and everything that I could create with it. The computer was like a magic box with infinite treasures inside to behold. However, I didn’t see tech as a career path. When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, the answer evolved from actress to dancer to teacher to fashion designer and even President.
As the years flew by, I continued to nurture my first love. After my mom bought me my first laptop as a Christmas gift when I was nine, I learned how to fix software problems by tinkering with the things that I’d broken. With the aid of better equipment and a keener skill set, I was charging people for my services by the age of fifteen.
From virus removal to websites and graphic design, I was the go-to for technical problems and tasks. Driven by a higher level of motivation to succeed and the realities of high school graduation, I felt pressure to decide on a career path, and that pushed me to pursue my passion further.
Until this day, my love for computers, technology, and software has not dissipated and neither has my curiosity. Currently, I am a two-time published author, founder, and CEO of The Cyber Consultant, LLC, and a tech thought-leader who helps organizations and professionals create a safe, inviting, and fun digital presence for their brand.
The Cyber Consultant, LLC specializes in cybersecurity, data privacy, and secure website development.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have faced a lot of adversity on the journey to becoming the woman I am today. I was homeschooled from 6th grade to graduation because of an undiagnosed illness. I became ill at 8, but my symptoms got progressively worse and my parents believed that it was the right decision to homeschool me at the time.
I’m a very social person, and I struggled with not being able to socialize with my peers on a daily basis. Doctors were constantly telling me that there was nothing wrong with me. I knew I wasn’t making this up for attention, and I would do anything to have my “normal” life back. I was so relieved when I finally got diagnosed and treated for Sjogren’s Syndrome at 16. I finally felt like I was able to take my life back.
As a business owner and author, I have struggled with being taken seriously due to my age. That is an ongoing struggle, but I refuse to let it stop me from pursuing my dreams.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

I am most proud of the connections that I make with my clients. For so long, technology and cybersecurity have been perceived as being sterile, serious, and boring. While keeping your business and clients secure is a very serious matter, that doesn’t mean the process can’t be enjoyable.
I want to understand my clients’ tech needs in a way that adds value to their brand and elevates their success. Our mission is to help non-tech savvy business owners achieve their digital goals safely and attract clients from around the world.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the Memphis area for so many reasons. However, I think my top reason would be the food, especially the BBQ. No matter where I go, I can’t find a BBQ that compares to ours.
My least favorite thing about the city is probably the crime rate.
