Today we’d like to introduce you to Mykerah Robinson.
Hi Mykerah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story starts back in 3rd grade when I was that little girl struggling to comprehend what I was reading. I remember feeling small, confused, and overlooked in class. My parents made a decision that changed the course of my life when they moved me to a new district, and my mother worked tirelessly with me at home until the light came on. By 7th grade, I was reading at an 11th-grade level. That breakthrough taught me early that when a child is truly seen and supported, their entire future can shift.
That experience planted a seed that would follow me for life. I became an early childhood educator because I knew I wanted to make sure no child ever felt unseen in a classroom I led. My kindergarten classroom was more than an academic space; it was a place of belonging, care, and high expectations.
As my career evolved, I stepped into roles as a coach for teachers and as an advisor for future educators, walking alongside them as they learned to serve children with skill and heart. I quickly realized that while great instruction is vital, leadership and culture are what sustain it. I saw how healthy, intentional leadership has the power to transform entire schools not just for students but for teachers too.
I felt deeply called to answer that need. I founded Robinson Literacy & Leadership Consulting to help K-12 leaders create schools where people want to stay. Places where culture is healthy, teachers feel valued, leaders feel equipped, and students thrive. I designed The Fruitful Leadership Framework, a model rooted in the Fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control — and I now coach leaders on how to put these timeless principles into daily practice to build cultures that last.
My leadership work goes beyond surface-level strategies. I help leaders self-reflect, navigate hard conversations, build trust with their teams, and design systems and structures that protect healthy culture even during change. I believe leadership is both a skill and a calling, and I teach leaders to lead with integrity, compassion, and courage.
I am also an author. My first book, The Fruitful Leadership Workbook, is a practical guide that brings my framework to life for leaders who want to grow themselves and their teams from the inside out. Every page is designed to inspire reflection, intentional action, and real change.
Today, I spend my days coaching, speaking, writing, and building tools for leaders and schools here in Memphis and beyond. I believe culture is not an accident; it is planted, nurtured, and protected daily. Just like my mother once nurtured my potential when I was that struggling little girl, I am now on a mission to help leaders see what is possible in themselves, their teams, and their schools.
I see FRUITFUL schools. Places where leaders are healthy, inspired, and well-supported. Where teachers wake up excited to come to work. Where students feel safe, seen, and motivated to learn. Where families trust that their children are growing in an environment that truly cares. I see schools that are not just buildings, but thriving communities that transform generations. I see leaders who lead with heart, courage, and vision, and who know they are never alone in the work.
This is my life’s work: reviving the spirit of education, one leader, one school, and one community at a time.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, and honestly, I would not want it to be. Every challenge has strengthened my faith, refined my vision, and deepened my commitment to this work. One of my biggest struggles has been learning how to build something new while carrying the lessons I gained as an educator. Transitioning from the classroom to coaching teachers and leaders, and then stepping out to start my own consulting business, required courage, sacrifice, and unwavering trust in what I know I am called to do.
There have been seasons where doors closed, funding felt uncertain, or people did not fully understand my vision. There were moments when I felt overlooked, misunderstood, or simply tired of doing the work alone. I also experienced the pain of losing my grandfather shortly after starting my business, which brought grief right alongside the excitement of building something new. I have carried the weight of waiting on promises that have not yet come to pass, trusting that what I am planting now will bloom in due time.
Yet through every obstacle, my faith has anchored me. I remind myself daily why I started. I believe my journey, with all its ups and downs, makes me relatable to the leaders I serve. I know what it feels like to carry a vision that others cannot always see. I know what it means to lead when no one is watching, to keep showing up when you feel unseen, and to trust that the seeds you plant will bear fruit in time.
The road has not been smooth, but it has been worth it. Every challenge has shaped me into a stronger leader, a more thoughtful coach, and a more resilient entrepreneur. For that, I am grateful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Robinson Literacy & Leadership Consulting is an education consulting firm dedicated to helping K-12 school leaders build healthy, thriving school cultures. We specialize in leadership development, culture strategy, and coaching for principals, teacher leaders, and entire school communities.
Schools and leaders today need more than quick fixes and surface-level professional development. They need practical, proven strategies to build strong cultures, retain great teachers, and lead with confidence and care. Many leaders feel isolated, overwhelmed, or stretched thin trying to hold their schools together. That is where we come in.
Our signature model, The Fruitful Leadership Framework, is rooted in timeless principles like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These guide leaders to transform their schools from the inside out. We do not just share ideas. We walk alongside leaders as thought partners and coaches, helping them create environments where people feel valued, respected, and motivated to stay. We call this commitment Leading with the Fruit.
What sets us apart is that our support is real and relational. We visit schools, walk hallways with leaders, sit in meetings, observe classrooms, and listen to teachers. We help leaders reflect honestly on what is working and what is not. We design systems and practices that align with the values they want to see every day.
I am most proud that our brand stands for integrity, faith, and intentional culture building. We believe healthy schools are not an accident. They are grown with care and protected daily. We help leaders see themselves clearly, build trust with their teams, and lead with courage and consistency.
In addition to coaching and consulting, we offer professional development sessions, customized workshops, and practical tools like The Fruitful Leadership Workbook, which brings our framework to life step by step.
At Robinson Literacy & Leadership Consulting, we Lead with the Fruit because we know schools and leaders need it now more than ever. We are here to revive the spirit of education, one leader and one school at a time.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I do not really believe in luck, whether good or bad. I believe in faith, purpose, and divine timing. Everything that has happened in my life and business has been guided by God and shaped by obedience, preparation, and perseverance. When doors opened, I knew it was favor and alignment, not luck. When challenges came, I trusted they were refining me for what I am called to build.
One example is that just four months after launching my business, I was blessed with the opportunity to present at the Memphis-Shelby County Schools Leadership Institute. This was huge for me as a new education consultant. Since then, I have been trusted to deliver professional development for several amazing headship teams, work alongside dedicated principals, and coach leaders who genuinely want to build healthier, stronger schools.
None of this is by chance. I see these opportunities as open doors that only God could orchestrate. I believe blessings are connected to the seeds we plant, the prayers we pray, and the faith we carry through the process. I am still growing my reach and actively working to partner with more schools and leadership teams so I can help even more leaders create fruitful schools and lasting culture change.
Instead of saying I have had good luck, I will always say I have seen the goodness of God and the fruit of trusting Him every step of the way.
