Exploring Life & Business with Tamara Denise & Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Denise & Co.

Hi Tamara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to Memphis in my 10th-grade year. My dad had just retired from the Air Force and decided Memphis would be my final home destination. Life was very different in a very urban area. More urban than any place that I had ever lived. But I grew to love Memphis. I graduated from Cordova and then went on to graduate from the University of Memphis. During my college years, my mother’s breast cancer was becoming more and more aggressive.

Soon after graduating, my mother passed. It took a toll on me, but I continue to push through every day. One of the values that she and my father always instilled in me was the need to serve others. Every personality test, trait test, and anything else, always revealed this value. So, I fumbled upon a duo of ladies that really helped me live up to this value. Any opportunity they knew of and any room I needed to be in, they made sure I was there.

I got so much joy out of serving others, whether it be volunteering, helping someone with some extra work they had, or helping folks who overextended themselves and need a litter extra help to meet deadlines. It’s like I was thriving based on others’ happiness. Their happiness was my happiness. After having kids, and wanting to support my family more and teach the value of ownership, I decided to start my business.

I still enjoyed the work I was doing, but now it was time for me to monetize my services, I had gotten the experience and the exposure, it was just a means to putting myself out there and securing clients. I decided to do virtual assisting because it allowed me to touch on all the areas I love and not just pick one of many.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road, but that is expected, right? Some challenges for me were mindset and securing clients. If I don’t have my head on straight, then I couldn’t perform to the best of my abilities. Sometimes I questioned if this was what I need to be doing, if could I even do it, would people pay me after I’ve been doing it for free for so long. All sorts of things.

But once I was focused, nothing could stop me. Plus between thinking about past conversations with my mother and my mentors, I knew I would be fine. Clients, on the other hand, were sometimes difficult to secure. Some didn’t want to pay. some wanted to negotiate pay, and sometimes there were no clients to do any work for. That’s when I really have to get to work.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tamara Denise & Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tamara Denise & Co is my pride and joy. I offer virtual assistant services, social media management, and travel services. I specialize in business operations, operations, and marketing. I believe what sets me apart is my willingness to serve at any level. And while serving I provide professional services with a personal touch. I recently rebranded my business to my own name because I bring personality and professionalism to my work.

I love connecting and watching the growth of others while playing a part in it. I’m more of the brains in the background with them being in the spotlight. I want people to know that it’s okay to ask for help. It’s okay to outsource to a virtual assistant and allow them to take on the things you don’t want to do, can’t do, or shouldn’t be doing. I’m accepting clients so if you’re interested in learning more, feel free to contact me and we can talk.

Any big plans?
In the future, I’m looking to have agency or virtual assistants, online business managers, and social media managers. Strictly women based. I’m wanting to be a “household name” for small business owners.

I want the brand to be known for unmatched customer service, good people, and professional services. With all that I’m wanting to offer a co-working space for my staff and other online business owners to come and work if they need a change of scenery.
