Hidden Gems: Meet Brandi Rhoden of HoneyBee Wellness & Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Rhoden

Hi Brandi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Wow, where to begin? My story is really rooted in resilience and a desire to make an impact. Growing up, I faced a lot of trauma. It was something I carried around, and for a long time, I didn’t even realize how much of myself I kept hidden away. As I got older, I began to understand how deeply it affected me, and I realized there were probably so many others out there feeling the same way—holding onto things that were too painful or scary to show to the world.

I started HoneyBee Wellness and Consulting the day after Christmas in 2020. I remember waking up that morning and feeling this intense feeling. I thought, ‘I can’t go another year without stepping into my Purpose’. So, in a way, it was my gift to myself—a fresh start to make something meaningful. I wanted to build a space where people, no matter who it is, could come as they are, with all the things they might’ve been hiding or unsure of, and find real support and a chance to heal.

My faith and my two sons keep me going every single day. They’re my constant motivation to keep pushing forward, even when things get tough. I want them to grow up seeing that their mom lives with purpose and that there’s no limit to what we can achieve if we stay true to ourselves.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, the road to where I am today with HoneyBee Wellness has been anything but smooth. I started out thinking I could do it all, and I tried! But I made some choices, financially and with the team, that I had to learn from. Those first couple of years were rough. I was juggling everything, probably making some dumb decisions because I didn’t know any better. Honestly speaking, I really needed a business coach, a mentor, and the proper financial people in place. But going through the process with my business, I was able to discover a strength in me that I didn’t even know existed.

Learning to delegate was huge for me. It took a lot to build a team I could trust enough to hand over some control, but once I did, things started to shift. It’s all about trust and discernment. Those were my biggest lessons. I had to learn to trust myself to make better decisions and to trust the people around me who were there to support this vision. And even though we’re still a work in progress, I feel like I’m finally getting it right.

We’re about to go through a rebrand, which feels like the next step in this journey. HoneyBee Wellness has grown and evolved, just like me. It’s taken a lot of grit, and it still does, but I wouldn’t change a thing because every step has led us to a place where we can make a real difference. I’m proud of how far we’ve come, and I’m excited about what’s next.

As you know, we’re big fans of HoneyBee Wellness & Consulting. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At HoneyBee Wellness and Consulting, we offer mental health counseling with a variety of payment options, so people feel comfortable reaching out for more information. We provide therapy services across three states—Texas, Tennessee, and Mississippi—both virtually and in-office. Our main office is located in East Memphis, conveniently near 240 and Poplar, and we also have a secondary location in South Mississippi, just outside of Hattiesburg. We’re here to serve children ages 5 and older, teens, adults, and couples, so no matter where you are or who you are, we have a space for you.

People always ask me how I came up with the name ‘HoneyBee.’ I’ve always admired the queen bee; she’s at the center of the hive, leading, nurturing, and teaching. She supports everyone in the hive, creating a sense of community and purpose. That’s exactly what I wanted to bring to HoneyBee Wellness—a place that not only serves, but also builds, strengthens, and supports everyone who walks through our doors. Like a hive, we are connected, resilient, and stronger together.

In addition to counseling, I’m also a consultant, helping businesses and organizations become more trauma-informed—or, as we’re now shifting the language to, ‘healing-centered.’ I provide wellness and mental health consulting to corporations, schools, and youth-serving organizations, guiding them in creating environments that truly support resilience and healing. I offer workshops and trainings on how to cultivate healing-centered spaces and also write social-emotional learning curriculum for youth programs, churches, and schools.

What sets us apart is our commitment to being a true community hub for healing and growth. I’m proud that we’re not only helping individuals, but we’re also helping other organizations build healthier, more resilient communities. Honeybee Wellness is more than a practice—it’s a mission to spread compassion, healing, and a sense of belonging, just like a hive.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Anyone who’s close to me knows I absolutely love Memphis! From the music to the food to the rich history and art. Growing up, I didn’t even realize so many of the artists I admired were from Memphis. My uncles would always play 8Ball and MJG, and you’d better believe I had Three Six Mafia and La Chat on every single burnt CD I made! Now, I’ve got GloRilla on rotation faithfully– there’s something about Memphis music that just feels raw, real, and unforgettable. It’s part of what gives the city its soul.

What I like least, though, is the community violence, especially the gun violence that continues to traumatize the city. It’s heartbreaking to see, and it affects so many of the individuals I work with. My work isn’t just about providing support to people directly impacted by this violence but also about addressing the systemic oppression that keeps certain communities trapped in these cycles. But I have hope, and I believe in Memphis. I know it can and will become a better community. I’m determined to be part of that change, helping to create a safer, stronger Memphis for everyone.
