Today, we’d like to introduce you to Dorimar Ferrer.
Hi Dorimar, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I arrived in Memphis 16 years ago. I dreamed of being able to continue my career and continue doing what I love most, which is theater. Upon arriving in Memphis I met a friend who connected me to the local theater community.
That led me to be part of Cazateatro until today. I am very proud to be the Executive Director of Cazateatro. Cazateatro strives to create an inclusive community and appreciation and understanding of the diversity of Latinx culture through arts, education, and entertainment.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Since I was little, the love for theater has been part of my life. When I arrived in the United States I encountered several challenges to be able to continue with my career. But I believe that the challenges in my career have helped me fight harder to achieve my goals.
One of my biggest challenges was arriving in a city where the main language is not yours. But that was not an excuse to want to learn, work, and fight to fulfill my dreams. The most important thing is that even if we have challenges, we can always move forward with faith and determination.
We’ve been impressed with Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cazateatro became a 501c3 in August 2014. Cazateatro strives to create an inclusive community and promote appreciation and understanding of the diversity of Latinx culture through arts, education, and entertainment.
We also seek to introduce the greater Memphis community to the many facets of Latinx art and culture. To do so, we work to attract, entertain, and educate both English-speaking and Spanish-speaking Memphians of all ages.
Cazateatro offers: Bilingual Theatre Classes, Bilingual Plays – Theatre Season, Cultural Programs, Education Programs in the school system.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
When I have time I like to write. I write poetry and have written some plays. I wrote a play called No, not in my house about HIV. In addition, I have written two plays with a friend, called, De aquí y De allá Tomo I and De Aquí y De alla TOMO II – the adventure.
