Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamya Jones.
Hi Jamya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been into beauty overall for longer than I can remember. But I can say most of my influence came from my mother who also is in the beauty industry. She’s been doing hair for about 25 years. I started off watching her while she worked long days and nights at the salon, so it was almost natural to me when I did pick up the comb.
I started off practicing (really playing) on my cousins and friends all through middle school and when I reached high school, my mom gave me a station and started training me and I took off immediately. All through high school, I had a pretty consistent clientele and that’s when I made the decision that cosmetology was the career path that I wanted to take on.
I attended Cosmetology school after I graduated high school to gain my cosmetology license. Quickly, I realized that I wanted to practice cosmetology in all aspects, not just hair, so I started studying nails. Everyone knew I was good with hair so there was no doubt that I wouldn’t be just as good with nails. So now I am a Cosmetologist who specializes in nails.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, it has been a smooth process for me to start and run my business. I am blessed to be able to have the mobility and craftsmanship to work and do what I love. Don’t get me wrong, of course, there are bumps in the road, but enough pressure will smooth that bump out.
Becoming an entrepreneur was second nature to me being that I was birthed by one. With every challenge I’ve faced, there hasn’t been a time where I’ve given up completely. The most important thing for me was to use my ambition and drive to just KEEP GOING, no matter what was thrown my way.
As you know, we’re big fans of Juju Did It. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business is based around making everyone who enters my business space feel 10 times better than what they felt when they walked in versus when they walked out. I am a serial stylist who specializes in nails, and I put passion into my art and a ton of love behind what I do.
The fact that my services are unlimited is what makes me a unique stylist in my area. There is absolutely nothing I can’t do. If I don’t I’m into something I haven’t done before I take on the challenge head-on, especially to satisfy my clients.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
The covid 19 era was one of the best times for my business. Being an independent contractor during that time was where the money was. Most salons and nail shops were closed due to covid but I was not. By not closing business rushed my way.
I gained 20 times more clients than I did before covid be people still wanted to look beautiful and treat themselves during such hard times. During this time, I made sure to follow all covid safety protocols and guidelines to ensure everyone’s safety while being in my presence.
