Hidden Gems: Meet Kayla Smith of Kayla Smith Mobile Notary and Ooan Signing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Smith.

Hi Kayla, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Kayla Smith. I’m a mother, businesswoman, and a proud Memphian. Raised in the East Memphis neighborhood of Hickory Hill, I graduated from Kirby High School with a strong sense of purpose and determination. From an early age, I’ve been passionate about serving my community and creating opportunities—not just for myself, but for others as well.

After high school, I became a certified dental assistant through Concorde Career College. Shortly after, I stepped into the most rewarding role of my life—becoming a mother. I chose to stay home and focus on raising my child full-time, a chapter that taught me patience, resilience, and the true meaning of dedication.

As my child grew, so did my vision for the future. I began exploring new ways to build a career that offered both flexibility and fulfillment. That journey led me to the notary industry. I became a commissioned notary public, passed the NSA exam, and launched my business, Kayla Smith Mobile Notary and Loan Signing. What started as a personal pursuit quickly evolved into a thriving business—one that’s now proudly accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

But my mission doesn’t stop with my own success. I’m passionate about helping others break into this field and take control of their futures. That’s why I’m creating an in-person course and educational resources to guide others on the path to becoming notaries. Through my blog, The Official Seal, I share insights, inspiration, and tools to support aspiring entrepreneurs.

Whether through business, mentorship, or community engagement, I’m here to uplift, empower, and lead with purpose. Memphis raised me, and now I’m committed to giving back to the city that shaped me.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—but every challenge has helped shape the businesswoman I am today. One of the biggest struggles was the trial and error of learning how to navigate loan signings. When I first started, I had to teach myself how to handle different types of documents, communicate effectively with clients, and manage time-sensitive appointments—all without a mentor to walk me through it. There were moments of doubt, missed opportunities, and mistakes that taught me hard but valuable lessons.

We’ve been impressed with Kayla Smith Mobile Notary and Ooan Signing , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Kayla Smith Mobile Notary and Loan Signing, is built on professionalism, flexibility, and trust. I provide mobile notary services and specialize in loan signings, meaning I come directly to my clients—whether at their home, job, or a neutral location—to help them complete important legal and financial documents with confidence and ease.

What sets my business apart is the level of care and personal attention I bring to every signing. I’m not just showing up with a stamp—I’m showing up with empathy, professionalism, and a commitment to getting it right the first time. My clients know they can count on me to be punctual, thorough, and respectful of their time and privacy. Whether someone is closing on their first home, signing estate planning documents, or handling a last-minute power of attorney, I make sure the process is smooth and stress-free.

I’m most proud of how my brand represents excellence and empowerment. I started this business as a way to create freedom for myself and my family, and now I’m helping others do the same. I’m currently developing an in-person course and educational resources to help aspiring notaries learn the ropes, become certified, and launch their own mobile notary businesses with confidence.

At its core, Kayla Smith Mobile Notary and Loan Signing is about more than documents—it’s about showing up, serving my community with integrity, and helping others tap into their own potential. That’s what my brand stands for, and that’s what I want people to remember.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see the notary and loan signing industry continuing to grow, modernize, and diversify. One of the biggest shifts is the rise of Remote Online Notarizations (RON). As more states adopt digital notarization laws, the ability to serve clients virtually will become a standard part of the industry. This means notaries will need to adapt by becoming tech-savvy, learning new platforms, and finding ways to maintain a personal connection in a virtual environment.

Another trend I’m seeing is a greater demand for mobile notary services—especially from busy professionals, elderly clients, or those in healthcare and legal settings who need convenience and flexibility. Mobile notaries who deliver great customer service, stay educated, and remain compliant will always have an edge.

Additionally, I believe we’ll see more people turning to this field as a way to build independent, service-based businesses. With the right training and guidance, notary work offers a unique opportunity to generate real income on a flexible schedule. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating educational tools and in-person courses—because I know firsthand how empowering this career path can be.

The notary industry is no longer just a side hustle or a part-time gig. It’s becoming a legitimate business avenue—and I’m excited to be part of shaping that future.
