Hidden Gems: Meet Kiara Lewis of Hair by Kiara Chanell/BDY by KC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Lewis.

Hi Kiara, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hair has always played a big part in my life. Growing up, I used to be so excited to go to work with my mom on the weekends! She was a licensed cosmetologist and I would be glued to her side assisting her in any way I can. I knew from the very beginning that is what I would be doing, or so I thought.

As I grew older, I started to question if this was a career for me. I decided to take a different approach to my life and enrolled in college for business administration. After graduating college in 2016, I found it very difficult to find a job so I started back providing hair services as a side hustle.

Taking a leap of faith, I enrolled in cosmetology school in 2018 and knew this was my true calling. I’ve been a full-time stylist for 3 years now and have been extremely blessed during this time. Being able to transition to a new career during the pandemic, showed me that anything is possible.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’ve been blessed to have the talent to do hair for over 20 years and this has made it easy to transition into my career. I’ve had consistent clientele since the beginning.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Hair by Kiara Chanell/BDY by KC?
I am a licensed cosmetologist that mainly provides braid services and natural hair care. I wouldn’t consider myself a braid specialist; however, my most requested services are knotless braids and feed-in braids. I offer hair services for both women and men. My top-tier customer service sets me apart from others. It is important to me that my clients are always in a comfortable environment.

I have recently started an athleisure clothing brand, BDY by KC. BDY by KC provides high-quality activewear and lifestyle clothing and was created for customers to feel comfortable about themselves at all times. I am proud that my career has expanded in such a small amount of time.

Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to help others coming help in this field. I would love to help and mentor younger women who have an interest in the hair industry. I look forward to expanding and providing my services in different states.
