Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick And Shemika Herrington
Hi Patrick and Shemika, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Patrick is a master barber, and I am a manicurist. We began working together as a couple in 2014. Over the years, our friends and clients often asked us for tips, insights, and advice on how to make a marriage work. We would share how we have managed to make our marriage successful, and our testimony often resulted in success for those who applied what we had learned through our experiences.
As a result, we became sought-after for marriage coaching sessions, with clients referring us to couples who needed our perspective on communication and conflict resolution within their marriages. As these couples began to see positive results, we realized that marital guidance was needed and wanted from couples.
We also noticed that many of the couples we worked with were asking the same questions. We began to discuss how many other husbands and wives might be facing the same challenges. We started thinking about how we could share our testimony more broadly to help even more couples.
So we decided the best way for us to get our message out was to create a YouTube channel centered on sharing our twenty-plus years of marriage and navigating the highs and lows of marriage from a Biblical perspective. Thus, HisWife HerHusband YouTube/Podcast was created in 2019. And, in 2024 we officially launched HIsWife HerHusband Marriage and Life Coaching.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not! But any relationship comes with bumps in the road. The key is how much is one willing to invest to make the marriage successful. For us, my husband was a functioning alcoholic and not a believer and I was just rededicating my life to Christ. At that time we were “unequally yoked!” (We recorded a video on our YouTube channel entitled Unequally Yoked: My Testimony of Being Married to an Unbeliever.}
Our communication was not good, which resulted in a rocky relationship. I am committed to my newfound relationship with Christ and he wants nothing to do with the church. It sometimes felt like we’re just roommates, but, we are dedicated to making it work out and we have decided that divorce is not an option.
Working on our communication was and is a major factor for our marital success, then and now.
As you know, we’re big fans of HisWife HerHusband Marriage and Life Coaching. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
HisWife HerHusband Marriage and Life Coaching was created out of our passion and purpose to help marriages build and sustain from a biblical perspective. We specialize in giving practical steps for making marriages successful. If a couple truly wants success for their marriage we foster a place for personal responsibility within a safe environment. Sometimes, the dynamics of husband and wife can be difficult (men are from Mars and women are from Venus. LOL! ), however, we work closely with those differences to weld them together. With our coaching sessions, we dedicate ourselves to helping couples be better at being interdependent.
We are best known as the “unicorn couple.” We worked together, ride to work together, and worship together. We’re practically together most of the time. And, we are still friends. But, you see that’s it, we are each other’s best friend. That unique bond we created as best friends has allowed us this “unicorn” type marriage. As Coach Brandon Branch once said, “We take the time out [of our day] to put the time in.”
Our most proud moment for our brand has nothing to do with our brand, but with the success of a couple we once coached. The couple was struggling to connect. After sitting down to talk with us and really following the advice we gave, their marriage was restored, and added two children since. They recently came to the HisWife HerHusband Marriage and Life Coaching launch party to support us and encourage us that we do make a difference in others’ lives. For us, it was beautiful to see that they were still together and growing strong.
As stated before we coach from a biblical perspective. Our marriage coaching services start with an extensive assessment survey which serves as a guide and has been known to help improve marriages tremendously. Everything we ask of the couples is not only biblical but practical. If there is an opportunity that is beyond our scope of coaching we will refer the couple to a psychologist/psychiatrist. Coaching is something you want not something you need.

What are your plans for the future?
We are expanding our YouTube and podcast presence, by interviewing couples who have a uniqueness about their marriage to help other married couples receive relevant and relatable information. We will go live every other week on Mondays at 7 pm, and host in-person and virtual workshop/group coaching experiences tailored to assist married couples with managing communication, conflict, and finances.
