Hidden Gems: Meet Shari Biery of Alive With Purpose Health & Life Coaching, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shari Biery.

Hi Shari, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
The idea for my business was born from personal experience. For years, I supported my husband’s 20-year Navy career, raised our two children through ten relocations and multiple deployments, and held a wide range of roles to keep our family moving forward. I often call myself a “professional chameleon” because I constantly adapted, working as a respiratory therapist, financial analyst, administrative coordinator, and volunteer. But while I was supporting everyone else, I lost sight of myself.

The turning point came at my husband’s military retirement ceremony. As he handed me the folded American flag and said, “I love you… and it’s your turn,” something clicked. I realized I had spent years waiting for permission to prioritize myself. That moment became a personal call to action.

I began working with a health coach and started taking small, consistent steps to restore my energy, reconnect with my identity, and rebuild my confidence. The transformation was life-changing, and it inspired me to help other women do the same. I became a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and launched Alive With Purpose Health & Life Coaching in 2019.

Since then, my business has grown from individual coaching sessions to include group programs, workshops, community memberships, and a published book titled It’s Your Turn. I also developed the C.A.L.M. Method™, a holistic, structured framework that guides midlife women to reclaim their identity, improve their health, and build purposeful lives. My coaching integrates five key areas of wellness: physical health, relationships, vocation, spiritual connection, and financial well-being.

Today, I provide virtual coaching from my home base between the Tampa area and Memphis, where my husband helps teach at the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Baptist Health Sciences University. I have the privilege of supporting women across the country who are ready to stop putting themselves last and start living with clarity, energy, and purpose.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, but I believe the challenges have shaped both my personal growth and the heart of my business.

Like many midlife women, I spent years in survival mode, raising a family, navigating cross-country and overseas moves, and managing the constant transitions of military life. My career path was far from linear. With each relocation, I had to start over professionally, often taking whatever role fit our family’s needs at the time. While I gained a wide range of experience, I also struggled with feeling undervalued and invisible.

When I started my coaching practice, I faced a new kind of challenge. Building a business from the ground up required stepping out of my comfort zone. I had to learn how to share my story publicly, invest in my own development, and embrace the uncertainty that comes with entrepreneurship. At the same time, I was navigating my own midlife transitions including changes in my health, identity, and sense of purpose.

One of the hardest parts was realizing how easy it is for women to put their dreams on hold out of guilt, fear, or habit. That is why I am so passionate about helping women recognize they are not alone and that it is never too late to rewrite the story.

Every obstacle has deepened my empathy and strengthened my mission. The struggles taught me how to meet women where they are and walk with them toward the version of themselves they may have forgotten but still long to become.

As you know, we’re big fans of Alive With Purpose Health & Life Coaching, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Alive With Purpose Health & Life Coaching is a virtual coaching practice that helps midlife women reconnect with themselves, prioritize their well-being, and step into the next chapter of life with clarity and confidence.

We specialize in guiding women who have spent years supporting others, whether through caregiving, family responsibilities, or demanding roles, and who now feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of who they are outside of those commitments. Many of the women I work with are navigating midlife transitions, including hormonal changes, shifting identities, and inconsistent self-care. They do not need another diet or quick fix. They need a trusted guide, a supportive framework, and a path back to themselves.

What sets Alive With Purpose apart is our holistic, evidence-based approach. I am a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach, trained to support lasting behavior change using standards recognized by the American Medical Association. Just as important, I bring lived experience from raising a family through change and uncertainty and learning firsthand what it means to reclaim your health, energy, and identity.

At the core of our programs is the C.A.L.M. Method™, a proven framework that helps women make sustainable lifestyle changes in four key areas: mindset, nourishment, rhythm, and support. We integrate five essential pillars of well-being: physical health, relationships, vocation, financial wellness, and spiritual connection. This creates meaningful, whole-person transformation.

Our offerings include one-on-one coaching, group programs, workshops, speaking engagements, and a growing library of on-demand resources. I also published It’s Your Turn, a book and companion guide to help women say yes to themselves without guilt and take ownership of their lives again.

What I am most proud of brand wise is the impact. Women leave our programs not just feeling better, but thinking differently about who they are and what is possible for them. They move from exhaustion to intention, from surviving to thriving. That transformation creates a ripple effect that benefits their families, communities, and future.

For readers who are ready to stop starting over and finally feel like themselves again, I want them to know there is a better way, and they do not have to figure it out alone. We are here to walk beside them as they take their turn.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I appreciate most about Memphis is that even though it’s a city, it still feels like a small town in the ways that matter most. There is a genuine sense of community here. People know their neighbors, support local initiatives, and care deeply about making a positive impact. Whether it’s through health care, education, or grassroots efforts, there’s a shared desire to improve the lives of others.

I’ve also been inspired by the way Memphis values relationships and collaboration. My husband and I have both experienced this firsthand through our involvement in health care and higher education. There’s a strong focus on mentorship, service, and investing in the next generation, which is something we’re proud to be part of.

As for what I like least, I think many would agree that Memphis has incredible potential, and at times, it can feel like that potential is just waiting to be fully realized. There are challenges, but they also present opportunities for growth, innovation, and unity. What gives me hope is that so many people here are actively working to make a difference.
