Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Nott.
Hi Ashley, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I think, in some ways, becoming a therapist started long before I ever had the title.
I was always the person people seemed to come to when they needed someone to listen, process, or make sense of what they were going through. My own life experiences and childhood also shaped my interest in understanding people, relationships, and the ways our stories impact who we become. I knew early on that I wanted to be in a helping profession, but I wasn’t exactly sure what that would look like yet.
That uncertainty is actually what drew me to social work. I loved that the field was broad and allowed me the space to explore different ways of helping people while finding where I truly belonged. During college and graduate school, I worked in the nonprofit world supporting individuals struggling with substance use disorders. I later transitioned into business development within the behavioral health field, which allowed me to continue helping people access care while also learning about leadership, networking, and the business side of healthcare.
Eventually, I reached a place where I knew I wanted something different. I had the opportunity to join a group therapy practice, and that is where my love for individual therapy really grew. Over time, I found myself drawn toward working with high-functioning women, mothers, and individuals navigating anxiety, relationships, identity, and the pressure of trying to hold everything together.
Pretty early on, I knew my long-term dream was to open my own practice. I wanted to build something meaningful and create a space that reflected what I believe therapy can be: authentic, human, and a place where people feel truly seen.
Opening Ashley Nott Therapy has allowed me to practice in a way that aligns with who I am, both personally and professionally. I believe some of the most meaningful growth happens when we stop trying to become who we think we “should” be and start reconnecting with who we actually are.
Looking back, my path was not perfectly linear, but I think that is part of what makes it meaningful. Sometimes the dream becomes clearer as you move toward it. You do not always have to have the entire plan figured out before you start. Sometimes you just have to trust the next right step.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most meaningful things in life, it has not always been a smooth road.
One of the biggest challenges for me was learning to trust the process when I could not see the entire path ahead. For a long time, I knew I wanted to do something meaningful and impactful, but I did not always know exactly what that would look like. Each season of my career taught me something different, even the seasons that eventually showed me, “This is not where I am meant to stay.”
Starting a private practice came with its own challenges. Leaving behind the comfort of an established system and stepping into business ownership required a completely different level of trust in myself. Suddenly I was not only a therapist, but also learning how to be an entrepreneur, make decisions, market myself, and build something from the ground up.
There was also a personal side to that transition. Like many of the clients I work with, I have had seasons of learning how to quiet the pressure of what I “should” be doing and pay attention to what actually feels aligned with who I am and the life I want to create.
I think growth often looks much less glamorous while you are actually living it. It is filled with uncertainty, learning curves, and moments where you wonder if you are making the right choice. But those moments are also where a lot of confidence is built.
Looking back, I am grateful the road was not perfectly smooth. Each step helped me create a practice that feels authentic to me and allows me to do work I genuinely love.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Ashley Nott Therapy is a private therapy practice created with the belief that therapy should feel like a place where you can show up as your full self, not just the version of yourself that has everything together.
I specialize in working with adults navigating anxiety, life transitions, motherhood, relationships, boundaries, self-worth, and identity. I especially love working with high-functioning women who often appear confident and capable on the outside but internally feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or exhausted from constantly trying to keep up.
So many of my clients are the helpers, the achievers, the caregivers, and the people everyone else depends on. They are used to being the ones who figure things out. Therapy becomes a space where they finally get to slow down, understand their patterns, and ask, “Is the way I’ve always done things still working for the life I want now?”
I think what sets my practice apart is my approach. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation. My goal is to create a space that feels warm and supportive while also helping clients challenge old patterns, build insight, and make meaningful changes. Sometimes you need compassion, and sometimes you need someone willing to gently point out the things keeping you stuck. Good therapy creates room for both.
One of the things I am most proud of is building a brand that feels authentic to who I am. From my office space, to my online presence, to the way I show up with clients, I want mental health to feel approachable and human. Therapy does not have to feel intimidating or clinical to be impactful.
At the heart of Ashley Nott Therapy is the belief that people are not broken projects that need fixing. They are humans with stories, patterns, strengths, and experiences that deserve to be understood. My role is helping people reconnect with themselves and create a life that feels more aligned with who they are.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice is to give yourself permission to evolve.
I think there is a lot of pressure, especially early in your career, to have the perfect plan and know exactly where you are going. Looking back, some of the most important parts of my journey were the seasons where I was figuring it out. Every role I had taught me something. Some experiences showed me what I loved, and others helped me understand what I wanted to do differently.
I wish I knew earlier that changing direction does not mean you failed. Sometimes it means you are paying attention.
I would also tell anyone starting out to stay connected to who you are while you are building something. It is really easy to look around at what everyone else is doing and think there is one “right” way to be successful. Some of the best decisions I have made came from trusting what felt authentic to me, even when it looked different from the traditional path.
You do not have to have the whole vision figured out before you begin. Start somewhere. Stay curious. Learn from every season. The clarity often comes from taking the next step, not waiting until you feel completely ready.
