Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Marvin.
Hi Bianca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Introduced by my grandmother to a love of wallpaper, colors, and patterns, I decided to create collections of wallpaper inspired by plants and graphics and created Maison BONAMI in 2017.
In 2018, Morgane, Art Director and illustrator, joined Maison BONAMI. United by the desire to create modern and delicate wallpapers, made with respect for the environment, we are working together to develop Maison BONAMI.
Because we are convinced that we can produce more fairly while respecting nature, we have chosen to manufacture our wallpapers only on demand (no stock), only in France, and use ecologically certified solvent-free inks.
To create our designs, everything starts with a desire, a journey, a window opening onto a landscape, a detail of architecture, the delicacy of a plant… From these multiple sources of inspiration, joyful and timeless floral or geometric designs are born. Delicately hand-drawn, these designs are then colored to suit different types of interiors.
After several adjustments and trips back and forth to our production workshop south of Lyon, they become beautiful, subtle, and playful graphic wallpapers.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road for small businesses is never easy. We’ve been working hard for 5 years now, and always with a lot of energy and passion.
Combining life as a mum, life as a freelancer and entrepreneurship is no easy task. After the Covid crisis and the departure of 2 of our partners, we managed to raise funds to take part in the Maison & Objet trade show in January 2024. This will be a great opportunity to raise our profile and showcase our wallpapers to decorating professionals!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are wallpaper designers. All our designs are original creations, created by ourselves or by the talented artists we work with to enrich our catalog. To keep the carbon impact of our products to a minimum, all our wallpapers are made to order, for fairer production.
This means no stock, so there is no unnecessary production that could be destroyed. No transit of our products: products ordered by our customers are sent directly by our printers to limit our CO2 impact. 0 plastic packaging, made from wallpaper scraps and recycled paper packaging.
We also offer a made-to-measure service to adapt the motif, colors, and dimensions to our customers’ projects.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’m not someone who takes unconsidered risks.
However, when you decide to create your brand and you’re convinced that your products and creations deserve to be known, I think it’s necessary to invest both financially and humanly. Devoting time to developing your business is essential if it is to grow.
