Today we’d like to introduce you to Brad “Trak” Wheeler.
Brad “Trak”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was a kid, a friend took me to a music studio for the first time. Something about that experience grabbed my attention, and from that moment, I knew I wanted to be involved in music.
I started out rapping and making beats, and eventually taught myself how to record and engineer audio. That was more than 20 years ago.
Back then, I lived by a simple motto: “If somebody else can do it, I can do it too. I just need to learn how.”
I didn’t have a lot of money or the resources to pay people to do everything for me, so I learned how to do it myself. Through years of practice, patience, mistakes, determination, and constantly learning, I eventually became skilled enough to start recording and working with other artists.
What started in my house grew so much that I eventually had to open a professional studio. Today, I’ve been operating a professional studio for 18 years, and after all this time, I still have the same passion for helping artists bring their music to life and making sure they sound their best.
Along the way, I expanded into photography and videography as well. That journey has given me opportunities I never imagined when I first picked up a camera. My work has been featured in magazines, newspapers, websites, and even displayed on the back of a MATA bus. 🤣
But beyond the music, photography, videos, business, and accomplishments, I’m a husband and a father. Most importantly, I’m a firm believer that God is real. I don’t believe that simply because someone told me to. My own life has shown me His presence, His grace, and His faithfulness time and time again.
Looking back, what started with one childhood trip to a music studio became a journey that helped shape my entire life. And I’m still learning, still creating, and still building.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve just about went through everything you can imagine. Being a kid in Memphis without a present father, I quickly got involved in the street life and drugs.
I lost my mom and dad to drugs.
But here I am, drug free, and still standing.

Studio Plug Memphis is a full-service creative media company that I’ve built from the ground up over the last 18 years. What started with me recording artists and producing music eventually grew into a business that offers recording, mixing and mastering, photography, videography, graphic design, podcast production, interviews, and other creative services.
Music has always been at the heart of what I do. I started out as an artist and producer myself, so when an artist comes into my studio, I understand things from both sides of the microphone. I’m not just pressing record. I’m listening to the performance, helping bring out the artist’s vision, and doing everything I can to make sure they leave with something they’re proud of.
Over the years, I also developed a passion for photography and videography. My work has been featured in magazines, newspapers, websites, and even advertising on Memphis city buses. I’ve been blessed to work with all kinds of people, from independent artists and entrepreneurs to families, couples, businesses, and organizations.
What sets Studio Plug Memphis apart is the personal attention I give every project. I’ve always believed that if someone else can learn how to do something, I can learn it too. That mindset pushed me to develop multiple skills instead of limiting myself to one lane. It also allows my clients to come to one place with an idea and receive help turning that idea into a finished product.
What I’m most proud of is the longevity of the brand. Creative industries change constantly. Technology changes, trends change, and platforms come and go, but Studio Plug Memphis has continued to grow, adapt, and serve people for nearly two decades. I’m proud that something I originally started from home became a professional business that has helped support my family and countless people bring their creative ideas to life.
At the end of the day, Studio Plug Memphis is about more than music, photos, or videos. It’s about helping people tell their stories, build their brands, preserve important moments, and create something they can be proud of. And after all these years, I still have the same passion for the work that I had when I first started.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Keep putting the work in. Don’t get caught up in getting the recognition. It will eventually happen. Nowadays, with the internet at your fingers. It’s nothing you can’t learn.
