Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace Holyfield.
Hi Candace, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was working at Perkins Restaurant as a server for 13 years. I finally had run my course with the company and was looking for something new/fresh. I was introduced to massage therapy by my rep at Concord Career College.
I chose to do massage and never thought it would change my life. I started out doing spa parties for kids and then due to demand start working on all the parents. I was doing 3 spa parties per day on the weekends. My business quickly took off and I started to use Groupon for marketing and my brand exploded overnight.
My phone was ringing off the hook. I was booked 3 months out. It was an amazing part of my life. I went from broke, with no one knowing my business to overbooked within 24 hours.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had a lot of personal problems while building my company. I use I knew all the business knowledge back in 2010 that I know now in 2023. I was trying to build a company with limited funds.
I knew nothing about business credit. I did not have a product. I only knew how to make money using my hands so that held back my next level for years. I was black and young trying to open a spa.
So many people said I would never be successful. Landlords did not want to rent me a space to open my spa. I never gave up. I looked for commercial space every single day until someone gave me a chance.
We’ve been impressed with Six Figure Spa Chick, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Six Figure Spa Chick is the number one marketing strategist for spa professionals who are looking to stay open long-term. I own the largest African American Spa Professionals Community in the world. (spa boss tribe) We have over 58k posts on Instagram under the hashtag #spabosstribe.
We teach everything marketing, branding, sales, product development, team building, and financial education inside the community. I have 9 7 figure earners so far and 3 more to be announced this year. We do monthly giveaways from paying mortgages, to helping with groceries, to paying for our member’s trademarks.
I’m most proud of producing the only Black Spa Expo and Awards in the world. This is year number 4 for Spa Queen Expo and Year number 7 for Black Spa Awards.
What makes you happy?
To be honest, seeing other people happy really makes me happy. So many people die without experiencing true happiness on a consistent basis.
To see so many people living out their dreams really makes my heart smile and keeps me so inspired. Good food and reading also make me happy.
