Today we’d like to introduce you to De’shaun Chancy

Hi De’Shaun, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The Dare to Have Hair Journey: From $300 to a Multi-Million Dollar Brand

When I first started Dare to Have Hair in 2012, I was a stay-at-home mom newly wed, behind on my rent with just $300 and a dream. I didn’t have a business degree or years of experience in the industry; I had grit, faith, and the belief that I could create something special. From day one, my goal was to offer premium, authentic hair that women could feel confident in. I wanted Dare to Have Hair to stand out as a brand that not only provided quality products but empowered women to embrace their beauty and strength.

The early days were challenging. I didn’t have the luxury of a big team or a huge budget, so I did everything myself—from customer service and packing orders to learning about marketing and sales. I faced obstacles, but my faith and commitment to building something greater than myself kept me going. Slowly, the word spread, and customers began to see the quality and dedication behind Dare to Have Hair. That $300 investment grew rapidly, and within a year, we’d hit $370,000 in revenue.

Today, Dare to Have Hair is a multi-million dollar brand with a dedicated customer base and a profit margin over $10 million. But it wasn’t just about the money—it was about creating a movement. I wanted to show that you don’t have to be a statistic; you can rise above your circumstances. As a high school dropout and survivor of childhood trauma, I know what it’s like to face hardship. I didn’t let my past define me; instead, I let it fuel my mission to inspire other women to chase their dreams and to support each other along the way.

I now mentor other entrepreneurs, sharing everything I’ve learned and emphasizing the importance of resilience, community, and faith in JESUS CHRIST. From Dare University to my ‘Ultimate Journal for Bosses’ and my e-books, I’m passionate about helping others build a path forward in their lives and businesses.

Dare to Have Hair is about more than hair—it’s about daring to believe in yourself, to push past limitations, and to make a lasting impact on the world. I want to be a billboard for what’s possible when you combine faith with hard work. And I’m just getting started!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I started, I had just $300 to put toward the business. Every dollar counted, so I handled everything myself—sourcing, packaging, customer service, and marketing. I didn’t have a team or fancy resources, just the belief that this brand could be something special. I was a high school dropout and a survivor of childhood trauma, and sometimes the doubts crept in. I questioned if I was ‘qualified’ enough to build a successful business. It was a constant battle to push through those thoughts, but my faith kept me going. I knew I couldn’t let my past define my future.

I quickly learned how competitive the hair industry could be. Breaking into it as an outsider was intimidating. Many people were hesitant to help because they saw it as a threat. But I kept my head down, focusing on the quality of my products and building real connections with my customers. I realized that authenticity was my strength—people connected with my story and my genuine desire to make a difference.

As the business grew, I faced the new challenge of meeting demand with limited resources. Suddenly, I was scaling rapidly, but I didn’t want to compromise on quality. So, I invested time and energy into refining our processes, working harder to make sure our growth didn’t dilute the core values of Dare to Have Hair.

On top of it all, I was a stay-at-home mom. Balancing motherhood and business was one of my biggest challenges. There were countless late nights and early mornings, making sure I could be there for my family and still push my business forward. Those moments taught me resilience and gave me an even stronger reason to succeed—I wanted to show my children what was possible when you believe in yourself.

As Dare to Have Hair expanded, I had to transition from a one-woman show to leading a team. Trusting others with my vision and learning to delegate didn’t come easily. I had to grow into a leader who could inspire and motivate, which was a whole new learning curve.

Each of these challenges—from limited resources to self-doubt, competition, and scaling—became a stepping stone. I learned so much about resilience, faith, and the power of believing in your own story. Today, I look back and realize that every single obstacle has helped shape Dare to Have Hair into the brand it is. And through it all, I’m more committed than ever to empowering others to believe in their own journeys.

We’ve been impressed with Dare To Have Hair, inc , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dare to Have Hair isn’t just a business to me—it’s a movement dedicated to empowering women and celebrating authenticity,” I start.

We specialize in premium virgin and raw hair extensions and hair care products, all designed to give our customers confidence and beauty that feels genuine. Since launching in 2012, Dare to Have Hair has grown from a humble investment to a multi-million-dollar brand, but at our core, we’re still committed to the same values we started with: quality, empowerment, and authenticity.

What sets us apart is our dedication to building relationships with our customers, who I affectionately call ‘DARE DOLLS.’ This isn’t just about selling hair—it’s about creating a community where women feel supported, beautiful, and valued. We know the hair industry can be competitive and even cutthroat at times, but I wanted to build a brand that stood out for its integrity and willingness to give back. One of the things I’m most proud of brand-wise is how Dare to Have Hair has become a trusted, household name in the hair industry. We’re known not only for our high-quality hair but also for our dedication to customer satisfaction. I’ve created resources like Dare University, where I teach others how to succeed in the industry, and our ‘Ultimate Journal for Bosses,’ which helps entrepreneurs map out their visions and strategies. Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
First and foremost, I give all glory to God,” I begin. “I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without Jesus Christ. His guidance and strength have carried me through every challenge, and I can’t deny how central my faith is to my journey. Every step of this business has been a testament to God’s grace and purpose.”

I also owe so much to my mom, who has been a God-ordained pillar in my life. She’s always encouraged me to push beyond my own limits and never let me settle for less than my potential. Her words of encouragement and belief in me, even when I doubted myself, have been a powerful force in my life.

Then there’s my husband and my children, who have been an incredible support system. They’ve made sacrifices right alongside me and have been my motivation through it all. My sister-in-law Iesha also deserves special recognition—she’s been there through thick and thin, lending both hands and feet to help me whenever I needed it, whether it was with the business or just managing life’s daily demands.

Of course, I couldn’t go without mentioning my amazing community and loyal customers. Without them, Dare to Have Hair wouldn’t exist. They’re the reason I do what I do, and their loyalty, feedback, and love have been the heart of this business. They’re not just clients—they’re family, and every step of growth has been with them in mind.

I’m so grateful for each and every one of these supporters who have played such a huge role in my journey. Their encouragement, sacrifices, and trust have been vital to the success of Dare to Have Hair. This business is a reflection of all of us, and I wouldn’t be here without their love and dedication.
