Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Terry.
Hi Emma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I graduated from high school, I wasn’t sure exactly what career I wanted to pursue. After being at Southwest TN Community College for a couple of years, I learned about the Aesthetic Industry and decided to pursue training through Gould’s Academy to become a licensed esthetician in Tennessee.
I loved learning everything there is to learn about the Aesthetic Industry: skincare, makeup application, and body waxing. I graduated from Gould’s in 2016 and have never looked back. Today, I’m beyond grateful and excited to say I am a solo esthetician and business owner!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey to where I’m at in my career today has been quite the opposite of smooth. I learned a harsh lesson about something that wasn’t included in my esthetician training but is common in this industry: non-compete clauses.
Two years ago, I thought my career as an esthetician was over, but I was confident I had always acted in a professional and ethical manner, so accepted the reality that if I was going to continue with my passion, I was going to have to start from scratch, and so that’s exactly what I did. I started Grace Waxing Co because I refused to let my hardships keep me from doing what I love.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I think an important lesson I learned from the Covid-19 crisis is to remember to never take anything you have for granted.
