Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Janus.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always loved to clean, but I have been especially passionate about eco-responsible cleaning. I got a job with Two Chicks and a Broom when I moved to Memphis from Upstate NY in 2006 and I worked as a cleaner while getting my degree at U of M. I was promoted to office manager in 2010, and I eventually purchased the company from the previous owners in 2015.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Owning this business has been one of the most challenging things I’ve ever done. It was a huge leap of faith to buy the company and almost impossible as a single 29 year old woman to secure funding to do so. I spent many years making necessary changes and growing the company into something I could be proud of. It was very much a ‘learn from my mistakes as I go’ process. Covid wiped out about 85% of our progress overnight. It’s been a very slow, difficult road making it through that time and we’ve basically had to build it back from the ground up.
We’ve been impressed with Two Chicks And A Broom, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Two Chicks and a Broom was the first professional cleaning company in the Memphis area to only use eco-responsible cleaning products, We believe cleaning should be effective as well as environmentally and socially responsible. We offer both residential and small business cleaning and specialize in using professional grade non-toxic, biodegradable products. Our products are as effective as traditional chemical cleaners without the harmful side-effects and safe for children and pets. We provide a range of personalized services including recurring housekeeping services, one time deep cleans, move in/move out cleaning, and home organization. Our individualized approach ensures that clients get the best possible services for their needs,
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I think human-focused, health conscious services will always be on trend, but especially going forward as everything becomes increasingly automated and impersonal. We care about our clients, we care about our employees, and we strive to provide the highest quality, most effective services we can. Being eco-responsible has definitely become an industry standard instead of an exception, and I think that will continue. I think most people are struggling at the moment and cutting back expenses where they can, which has made business difficult. I think you really need to offer a worthwhile, personalized service to be worth the cost.
