Today we’d like to introduce you to Justice Sims
Hi Justice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Justice Sims, and I am a licensed natural hairstylist, the owner and CEO of Hair Justice Extensions LLC and Beautique Salon Suites LLC. My passion for hair began at a very young age—around seven or eight years old—when I would spend hours styling my dolls’ hair. I grew up in a family of talented women, many of whom knew how to style hair, whether licensed or not. I was also fortunate to have an aunt who owned a salon, where I spent my summers immersed in the beauty industry, watching and learning firsthand.
In high school, I took my passion a step further by enrolling in cosmetology courses during my sophomore year. By the age of 16, I was mastering sew-in installations on myself, which quickly led to friends, family, and classmates requesting my services. This sparked my journey as a hairstylist, and I began building my clientele.
At 20, I took a significant step in my career by working in my first salon in Germantown, TN, in 2016. Within a short time, I established a strong, professional clientele, and by September 2017, I opened my own salon—Hair Justice Salon in Cordova, TN. I successfully operated my salon for over five years before making the decision to close it in January 2023 to relocate to Atlanta, GA, where I obtained my real estate license.
While my time in Atlanta was valuable, my passion for the beauty industry never wavered. I have since returned to Memphis, where I am launching my latest venture—Beautique Salon Suites, set to open in February 2025. This new business is designed to provide high-quality, professional salon spaces for beauty entrepreneurs and service providers to thrive in their careers.
My journey has been one of dedication, growth, and resilience, and I am excited to continue making an impact in the beauty industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While my journey has been relatively smooth and progressed quickly, there have certainly been challenges along the way. One of the most significant and life-altering obstacles I faced occurred in May 2016, just months before my 21st birthday. I was an innocent bystander on the University of Memphis campus when a senseless shootout broke out which led to me being a victim to gun violence. In the midst of chaos, unfortunately I was caught in the crossfire and was struck twice from behind—one bullet hitting my leg.
As I lay on the ground, frightened and in a pool of blood, my only thoughts were of survival and whether I would be able to stand again to continue servicing my clients. In that moment, I realized just how deeply passionate I was about my craft. I thank God every day for sparing my life because that situation could have had a much different outcome. By His grace, I recovered fully, and despite the trauma, I never let it deter me from my goals.
That experience only fueled my determination, and just a little over a year later, at the age of 22, I opened my very first salon. The road hasn’t been completely smooth, but through my faith in God, resilience, and unwavering dedication, I’ve continued to push forward, build my business, and turn every challenge into motivation for success.
