Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Holloway.
Hi Kelli, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my professional journey with an initial interest in school counseling; however, my path evolved when a mentor who was a social worker encouraged me to explore the field of social work. As I learned more about the profession, it aligned strongly with both my values and professional interests. At that time, I was raising two young children and had not yet completed my bachelor’s degree, which led me to enroll in a distance learning program through Kaplan University, now Purdue University. While completing my undergraduate studies, I worked full‑time at a local children’s hospital, where I dedicated 14 years in a variety of roles, including Ambulatory Clinics registration and scheduling, administrative support within the Social Work Department, and ultimately serving as a Community Health Worker in a high‑risk pediatric asthma program. After earning my bachelor’s degree, I enrolled in the Master of Social Work program at the University of Memphis, continuing to work full‑time while balancing the responsibilities of being a wife and mother—by that time—to three young children. Following graduate school, I gained clinical experience as a therapist in rural Arkansas and in residential treatment settings, before spending the past seven years working with an exceptional non‑profit organization. Most recently, I have transitioned into private practice, where I continue to grow professionally while embracing the responsibilities and opportunities that come with independent practice.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Navigating my career path required balancing significant personal and professional demands, particularly during the years I was raising three children while working full‑time and pursuing my education. Managing coursework, internships, and professional responsibilities alongside parenting required constant prioritization, sacrifice, and resilience. Many days involved late nights studying after my children were asleep, attending internships while maintaining full‑time employment, and learning to be fully present in multiple roles at once—mother, partner, student, and professional. Completing unpaid internships while supporting a household presented both financial and emotional challenges, yet reinforced my commitment to the profession and the populations I hoped to serve. One of the most difficult transitions was leaving a job I had dedicated 14 years to at the children’s hospital—a place that had provided stability, familiarity, and professional growth. Stepping away from that sense of security into new clinical roles required courage and trust in my abilities, especially while adjusting to new environments and expectations. Despite these challenges, the experience strengthened my discipline, adaptability, and empathy, shaping the clinician I am today and reinforcing my belief that meaningful growth often occurs amid uncertainty.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I provide mental and behavioral health psychotherapy with a strong trauma‑informed approach. My work focuses on helping clients develop emotional regulation skills, process past experiences safely, and create sustainable patterns of healing that support their overall well‑being. I strive to meet clients where they are, honoring their lived experiences while equipping them with practical tools to navigate life more effectively.
What sets me apart is my personality and my ability to genuinely connect with others. I work intentionally to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. Building authentic therapeutic relationships is central to my work, and I believe healing happens best when clients feel emotionally secure and respected. Additionally, I offer evening and weekend availability, which allows me to better serve individuals who may not be able to access therapy during traditional business hours.
Brand‑wise, I am most proud of My Legacy Counseling Center, LLC. This practice represents more than my professional journey—it is a space designed for clients to create their own legacy of healing. I believe the work clients do in therapy extends far beyond the individual, allowing them to leave behind an emotionally healthier legacy for future generations. Supporting clients as they break cycles, heal from trauma, and redefine their own narratives is at the heart of everything I do.
I want readers to know that my practice is fully telehealth, offering flexible scheduling that includes daytime, evening, and weekend appointments. At this time, I primarily provide individual therapy, with plans to expand into couples therapy and group therapy in the near future. Clients can conveniently book sessions directly through my website at www.mylegacycounseling.com, making access to care as seamless and client‑centered as possible.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that often surprises people who know me or my work is that I’m very much a homebody. While I may come across as extroverted—and there was a time in my life when that was true—this season is centered on calm, privacy, and being deeply rooted in family life. I value a slower, more intentional pace and prioritize environments that feel grounding and restorative rather than overstimulating. That desire for balance flows directly into how I care for myself. One of my most sacred self‑care rituals is doing my own nails. I taught myself how to do acrylic nails and have been maintaining the practice for nearly three years. It’s not just about appearance—it’s a quiet, focused time that belongs entirely to me. In those moments, I’m able to slow down, be fully present, and engage in self‑pampering that feels both creative and centering.
