La’Crystal, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
It’s inspiring to think back on my journey and how my entrepreneurial spirit has been with me since childhood.
Growing up in South Memphis with a single mother, I saw firsthand the hard work and sacrifices required to provide for a good life. I always knew that I wanted to own my own business one day, and that dream stayed with me throughout the years.
My journey towards starting Precise Fingerprinting began when I became a notary for the state of TN. I took a course, purchased insurance, and started researching different business opportunities. Despite not making any money initially, I persevered and continued to search for my next idea.
Finally, after countless nights of searching Google and YouTube, I stumbled upon a video about fingerprinting that caught my attention. The first time I saw it, I ignored it and continued my search for the next big thing. But a year later, the same video popped up again, and this time I decided to take action. I reached out to Rhonda, who has three successful fingerprint businesses in TN, and she became a pivotal figure in my journey.
I started out mobile, meeting clients at Starbucks for appointments. But as my business grew, I obtained office space in July 2022. Since then, I have served over 300 clients, which is a testament to my determination and hard work.
My journey is an inspiring example of how persistence and a willingness to learn can lead to success in entrepreneurship.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way!!! If someone tells you that being a business owner is easy, they’re definitely lying. Don’t get me wrong, there are perks to being your own boss, but unexpected things will always arise. Funding my business was a huge struggle, especially since I didn’t have a lot, to begin with. So, I had to leverage my credit to get started.
But here’s the thing: have you ever heard the saying “It takes money to make money?” Well, it’s absolutely true.
When I first started, I didn’t take into consideration that even small things can add up to be very costly when combined. For example, I needed to get booking software to help keep my business organized. And then there was obtaining a business bank account immediately to avoid mixing my personal and business funds. Investing in insurance, an LLC, a licensed CPA/attorney, and money for advertising was also essential.
So, even before getting started, there were a lot of expenses that needed to be taken care of. But, as an entrepreneur, you have to be willing to take risks and invest in your business. It’s not always easy, but with the right mindset and planning, it can be incredibly rewarding.

I’ve been in business since June 2022, but officially since October 2022, I specialize in fingerprinting. I think what sets me apart from others is my customer service skills and my precise skill hence the name Precise Fingerprinting. When a client walks through our doors I want them to feel like family and not just a number. If I had to pick one, then I’m most proud of brand-wise is achieving a high level of customer satisfaction.

What matters most to me? Without a doubt, it’s my family. My husband, daughters, mother, aunts, uncles, and cousins – they are my village. They uplift me when I’m feeling down, support my dreams no matter how far-fetched they may seem, and always have my back. They are the reason why I’m doing what I’m doing, not just for myself but also for them.
As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day tasks and forget why you started in the first place.
But, every time I feel overwhelmed or uncertain, I think about my family and why I want to succeed. I want to provide them with a comfortable life, opportunities, and the ability to pursue their own dreams. They are my biggest motivators, and I couldn’t do this without them.
In the end, it’s not just about achieving financial success or reaching a certain level of fame or recognition. It’s about making a difference in the lives of those you love and care about. For me, that’s what matters most.
