Inspiring Conversations with Meredith Corning

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Corning.

Hi Meredith, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started my freelance public relations career in 2011 with a focus on representing local fashion designers in my area. Before that, I had always worked for other companies as part of their in-house PR and marketing teams.

It was when I went out on my own that I started to realize the potential of national and international press for my clients. Before then, much of the media I worked with at other companies had been local media only. Once I saw the many opportunities that are out there, I was hooked on a public relations career.

I have always leveraged creating events for my clients as a means to gain press. This is inevitably what led me into an event planning career shift and my years of experience with a vast array of hospitality industry businesses.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My mother always describes my career as mimicking the Hansel and Gretel story… I followed the bread crumbs where they led me. I am the ultimate opportunist. There have been many bumps in the road along the way in trying to determine my strengths and weaknesses for the niche market I am in.

The early years came with so much free or low-paid work, simply so I could gain the knowledge and experience I knew I needed. I am mostly self-taught in PR and event planning, so learning by doing with a lot of trial and error has been my method. Early in my freelance career, I was planning fashion shows and events which introduced me to the event world and the people who work in that industry.

Eventually, I realized that planning weddings was much more lucrative in my area than planning fashion events and I made a career change. I planned weddings for 8 years before Covid-19 came along and took the wind out of my sails. This is inevitably why I switched back to a public relations career and owning my own PR agency, except now I have two solid niches: fashion PR and wedding PR.

As you know, we’re big fans of Meredith Corning PR. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am the founder of Meredith Corning PR and Meredith Events based in the Ozark Mountain region of Arkansas. I have nearly twenty years of experience in the marketing, events, and entertainment sector with a niche in the fashion, lifestyle, and hospitality industries.

My company offers influencer relations, casting, publicity services, copywriting, blogging, messaging strategy, concept curation, and event planning. I am a regular contributor to the Atlanta-based international magazine, Novelty Luxe, where the subject matter I cover includes luxury travel and events. With a goal of up-leveling my clients no matter what phase in their business they come to my company, I will push the boundaries and initiate a dynamic mind shift in how my clients see themselves and their work.

People have called me savvy, witty, and charming and these are the exact qualities I use coupled with my experience to elevate my clients’ clout. With a passion for small businesses, my clients are often mom-and-pop shops and indie designers. My down-to-earth personality is what attracts people to my business, but my shoot-for-the-stars attitude is what keeps them around.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I lived in Memphis for two years before relocating back to my home state of Arkansas. As far as what I like best, I loved the vibe of Memphis with all the excellent local musicians, high-profile shows that came to town, and the unique and varied cuisine available with some of the best culinary chefs and artists in the business.

For what I liked least, I would like to see more of a clean-up effort in the city – there are so many beautiful historical buildings downtown and an array of things to do, Memphis should always shine like the diamond it is!
