Inspiring Conversations with Robin Dabney of Bloom, Baby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robin Dabney.

Hi Robin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born in Memphis and raised in Marked Tree, AR. My dad was very involved in county and state level political roles and my mom was an elementary educator, so from a very young age I developed creative and social skills. I loved planning events for college socials and always enjoyed doing the floral pieces for my friends’ bridal and baby showers. When I moved to Dallas, TX to work as a cardiac ICU nurse, I began planning my own big life event! Our wedding! It was such a fun occasion and I loved every bit of it. Well, flowers and cake were loved the most! Soon after I joined my aunt’s event team. I didn’t just get to enjoy my own wedding, now I was a part of others’ special day! That’s where I believe all the pieces fell together, but maybe they just fell together 14 years later! After working three years at Baylor University Medical Center, Dallas, I returned to Memphis to attend University of Tennessee Health Science Center. I completed my doctorate of nursing practice and have been practicing as a nurse practitioner since 2013. When a job opportunity as stay at home mom opened in 2023 I quickly took it! While I enjoyed so much time with my three kids, I also longed to feed my creative need and desire to connect with people. I asked God to guide me in his direction. Bloom, Baby was developed with a commitment to pray over each arrangement and the recipient. It quickly grew from occasional deliveries to bloom bars, beginners arrangement classes, proms, formals, monthly subscriptions, celebrations of life and weddings! We now also offer day of wedding coordination! It is amazing to see what God started and how he’s growing it! It is such a joy to make a person’s day or their event look beautiful and run smoothly! I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be there for them!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m not brand new any longer, but I still feel like a baby in my business! My road still feels a little bumpy sometimes! I had never opened a business before so I had a lot to learn along the way! I’m still learning! I think some of the biggest struggles were self doubt! Could I actually make this business bloom? Can I make that project come to life for their event? So far prayer, pushing through, patience and practice have helped me along the way!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am based in Olive Branch, MS I serve DeSoto, Shelby, Tate, and Marshall counties. I deliver all the pieces. I design and create each piece uniquely. I attempt to include locally grown flowers as often as possible in the arrangements! Each piece is prayed over and included a scripture with their card.

I do daily arrangements, weddings, celebration of life services, bridal and baby showers, bouquets, boutonnières, corsages, prom, homecoming, formals, bloom bars, leis and floral crowns.

How do you think about luck?
My uncle Ron taught me luck is where planning meets opportunity. I don’t truly believe in luck. It’s not luck that we are where are or have what we have. God gave me opportunity and he gave me all these different life experiences so that when I stepped into his plan it may have seemed like luck but it’s actually his blessing!
