Today we’d like to introduce you to Sharonda Walton, ANP-BC.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Most of my nursing background has been in emergency medicine. In 2017, I was ready for a change and always had a passion for wellness and beauty. I decided to go to a training class on cosmetic injectables in Dallas, Tx but upon returning home to Memphis I found it very hard to find opportunities to continue what I learned and to get more hands-on training. No medical spas, plastic surgery offices or dermatology offices were hiring. One medical aesthetics office did allow be to come in and shadow with a provider a couple of times but that was it. I decided if this was something I really wanted to do then I would have to make it happen for myself. I started by renting a small room in Clark Tower and offered cosmetic injectables (ex- Botox and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers), wellness injections (ex- B12, Vitamin D, Lipo-B12, Immune booster) and IV hydration therapy. I worked around my hospital schedule and gradually was able to go part-time at the hospital as my clientele increased. I took as many opportunities as possible to do additional trainings to improve my skills and knowledge in the medical aesthetics field. During covid, the company that I was renting office space from decided to close so I had to find somewhere to go. I was able to find my current space in the same area of town and it offered more room. I was able to bring on other service providers and offer more services. I felt very blessed to be able to grow my business despite the pandemic. Since then, I have been able to continually add new services, such as, laser hair removal, facial services, weight loss program, body contouring, and much more to meet our clients wellness and facial and body rejuvenation needs. Also knowing how hard it was for me to break into this career field, I now also offer and provide shadowing and training opportunities for medical professionals that are interested in getting into the medical aesthetic industry.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This definitely has not been a smooth road. I love what I do and the clinical side of the business but running the business has been challenging. I am a nurse so we didn’t have any business classes or training in school. I have made several expensive mistakes but I have also learned so much on this entrepreneurial journey. I quickly learned that I couldn’t do it all, especially if I wanted to be successful, so I delegated task or hired those that were experts in areas I wasn’t good in (ex- CPA, social media and marketing manager).

Royalty Wellness Spa is a boutique style medical spa located in East Memphis. We offer an array of services to enhance your anti-aging and wellness needs. We offer services such as, cosmetic injectables (Botox/fillers/lipo dissolve), skincare services, laser hair removal, body contouring, hair restoration, weight- loss, IV hydration therapy, and wellness injections. We provide customized services in and intimate and friendly environment. We make sure to do continued training on services offered, as well as, any new upcoming treatments to make sure we are giving clients the safest and most up to date treatments. Being one of few black-owned medical spas in the area, we strive to provide treatments that are safe and effective for all skin types and tones. We have won several notable awards, such as voted the Best Wellness Spa in the 2024 Memphis Health and Fitness Reader’s Choice Poll; an honoree of the 2024 Power 30; and a 2023 recipient of the Comcast RISE grant.
How do you define success?
Success to me is being able to bless others. I believe God blesses us to bless each other, rather it be financially or just providing knowledge on something. I believe God has allowed me to grow in my business, despite all of the mistakes, so that I can help others who struggle to break into this field. To me that is success
