Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazmeen Trinh
Hi Yazmeen, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my beauty career 14 years ago as a nail tech. Through the years working for many nail shops, I was able to grow my skills and I also learned the insides of how to run a nail shop. Becoming a nail tech was not my goal but I fell in love with the community that it allows you to build. I built a community with my colleagues and clients alike. Unfortunately, 2020 put a halt to my career for a few months and I decided to start again on my own. Once I went back to work I started renting a salon suite. This was the first time I had ever heard about salon suites. I was in a shared space with another nail tech where we provided services to our clients. I loved it and that’s where my dream of one day being a salon suite owner was born. In 2022, I decided to create a diverse community of beauty industry professionals under one roof. I opened the doors to my first salon suite in East Memphis. After two years I was able to open our second location in Cordova. True Beauty Salon Suites has become home to many talented individuals who offer their services in many different beauty industries. I love the fact that we are surrounded by so many talented, passionate entrepreneurs and I have the privilege to be able to provide them a space where they can service their clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has been so many struggles to get to where we are now. From getting approval from the city to open the doors to now the latest problem is that we need more rooms. I started the salon with more of a dream than I did funds. We had a flood before I could open the doors to the salon which was a month set back to open. We also had a busted pipe during a snow storm. Once the floors were done every inspection failed a t first. It took me two months longer and more costs than expected to open. I wouldn’t take it back, all that I went through was a learning experience. I had doubts in the beginning but I kept going until one day all my rooms were filled by great people. Now my biggest problem is I need more rooms for more great entrepreneurs. I am currently looking for another location to fix the problem.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are home to some of the best entrepreneurs in Memphis. We provide all type of beauty industry services. We specialize in braids, nails, hair, waxing, sugaring, facials and lashes. There are many salon suites in Memphis now but what sets us apart is our community and support in each other. We currently have 13 entrepreneurs between both locations offering different specialties and some even have great products for purchase. The thing we all have most in common is that we love our supporters. Our clients have made all of our dreams possible. Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like best about our city is that word gets around. For entrepreneurs that’s great because word of mouth is our best seller. Sometimes we would get one client and eventually we would end up with the whole circle of friends as clients. The least thing I like about the city is that we could be better as a whole if we worked together to improve our city.
